Well, I guess no one's going to answer you because nobody
has ever heard of a 1980HO. I know I haven't. I knew a
guy who put in an aftermarket cam in his 351w and changed it
to the non-HO 302 firing order so it would work. I would
look in other areas to figure out what you have. I put a
1986 non-HO fuel injected motor in my 1980 4x4 and this is
what I noticed:
It had a roller cam-look in the lifter valley and see if there
are tapped holes down the middle to bolt the retainer for
the roller lifters.
It had a one piece rear main seal.
The timing cover had no provision for a fuel pump-I swapped
covers on mine but had to drill out the dowel pin holes
to 1/2 inch(of course somebody could have already done
all of this)
One important thing I discovered about these later fuel injected
engines is that they used different pistons that take
thinner rings. When I found some of my piston skirts
cracked and needed replacement pistons I asked and found
out I could put in the earlier type piston in with the
thicker rings much cheaper than using the late model stuff.
I remember doing some head scratching over the intake gaskets-
I used a 1968 4bbl intake on the 86 heads and if I remember
correctly I used the later gaskets with the old manifold.
(They give you both styles in a gasket kit)
I also have a EOAE-D3C engine (302) that i was told was an HO. It has the 351w firing order. Is it possible its a left over block used a few yrs later by ford? When was the first HO produced? 1983? Thanx for any help
The HO is mainly just from the 351 camshaft but cams could have been changed. The '82 HO had a 2 barrel carb and the '83-85 HO had a 600 cfm 4 barrel 4180 holley. There is also an '84-85 Central Fuel Injection HO that was put in the mustangs. I have a CFI HO that I converted to a carb.
HO blocks have 2 threaded holes in the lifter valley floor to hold the skeleton bar or whatever you wanna call it. 1980 didn't have an HO. if you take the intake off and see a bunch of little x looking bars(8), then that is an HO
