Front cowl vent

The body guy removed the front cowl vent from my 50; to paint. What is best way to re-install it without damaging the paint ? It would seem to need to go in at an angle, but the actuator rod seems to prevent further movement.

It's tight, very tight, but if you take the nut off the actuator so it can flop around, the frame will go in at an angle. I recall having to get part of the frame in one of the cutouts near the screw holes, does that make sense? Gains a precious 1/8" or so.

Thanks Ross; I'll mask it off and try this weekend when I get home.

Cowl Vent

Did you ever get the vent assy in? I saw your post and decided to try and get mine in before going to the painter the thing just doesn't fit. When I took it out the handle was broken off and it was still a job to get out.

I don't remember all the details, but I'm pretty sure you have to take the bolt/nut out of the linkage connected to the handle. Then you cork-screw the handle thru the opening. It took me a couple tries!

I taped all around mine when I installed it and the tape worked out well preventing nicks.

Cowl Vent

Thanks All, I'm glad tip49 mentioned it before the truck was painted so I can play with it without screwing up the paint. I think the truck will get painted with it installed.

Be sure to take the cover off then install the mechanism. Cover goes on after frame work is in.

Drop the handle side in first at an angle tilted down, then tilt it back, then drop in the passenger side.

If you have an aftermarket wiper motor, you may have to take that out to get the vent back in.

didn't try yet

Last weekend did not get time to try to install the vent; I need to buy the rubber seal before I try it. I did manage to start the wire harness install, through the firewall. I now have the wiring harness cut apart, hope I get to it soon before I forget how it all goes together.

Ah, another truck with AC that saved the cowl vent. I agree and am going the same route!
