Muffler elimination

I was wondering has anyone removed a muffler and replaced with a strait pipe? I've got a 04' V10 F250SD and wondering what kind of mpg change it would make if any? Also will I still have enough resistance for everyting to run fine? I will be leaving the cat on.

I think it may be too loud and if you live in a state that has inspection they will fail it with no muffler.

if you are wanting this route for MPG alone i wouldnt expect anything postive, you might better throttle response but minimal at best.

now if you want sound this is going to make it the loudest possible but dont expect anything there either the cats on these trucks are very restrictive and will keep most of the sound down. now it will still sound good but i wont be EXTREMELY loud as you would expect with a F150 or something of that sort unless you switch to a high flow cat.

but as the the question of anything performance loss there shouldn't be any again due to the fact of the cats keeping backpressure on the engine (no need to make this a case of backpressure good vs bad as it always ends up in these type threads)

Straight piping a V10 would sound BAD really BAD in my opinion.

Yea resistance or backpressure is no help to the motor.

What is a help to the motor is to correctly size the exhaust system to enhance scavenging.

Unfortunately, ideal volumetric capacity of the exhaust system varies with rpm, so no one particular size is always ideal.

YES.

I have a 01 f250 with a V10.

I cut the muffler off, and put a pipe comin from the Cat, out the side of the bed, before the rear tire.

Here is a vid-
**Note, the sound is not that good, because the vid was taken with a cell phone camera(it sounds scratchy but it sounds much better in person)
*And there is a lot of smoke because the vid was taken in like 25 degree weatherAnd the vid shows the motor being started the first time that day.
It dose not smoke at all normaly.

YouTube - ford f250 v10 custom exhaust, no muffler

Mpg went up a bit, i personaly LOVE the sound. Passing people at WOT puts the fear of god in them

Do you think you are going to take off your muffler?
