I have an 87 F-250 with a 6.9L and a 4spd, and My brother wa "playing" in it and broke the shifter and now it just wiggles around in the boot and when I went to fix it it didn't work and I can't shift it. Does anybody have a picture of inside the boot and what all I need to fix this. Thanks

Have you removed the boot yet?
It may be a simple fix depending on what transmission you have.
There are twodifferent four speed transmissions, Warner T-18 & New Process 435.
Wiggling shift lever: The New Process transmission uses a shift lever retainer cap that twists off/on. It's held to the shift tower with two pins.
What usually happens is, ppl try twisting the cap off without first PUSHING DOWN ON IT...the notches snap off the cap, which causes the shift lever to flop around.
Yours may have been bad already (one notch snapped off), your brother broke it completly by playing with the shift lever.
B8T7220D is the Ford p/n for the cap...it's been a problem since day one, so most dealers carry it.
The list price is: $7.59.
I suggest going to a Ford dealer for the illustration.
I don't know who has the 1980/89 Ford Light Truck Parts on FTE besides myself, and mine is on microfiche.
NOTE: If you have the New Process trans, but the cap is OK, the problem prolly lies inside the trans.
There are nylon sleeves that slide onto the shift forks...when those sleeves break apart and fall off, the shift lever has a little play in it, and you aren't going anywhere.
ALSO: New Process = Are the pins that retain the cap still there? They may have broken off.
I haven't pulled the boot off yet, but I'll try it today. I'm not sure what tranny it is though. When I say wiggle I mean I can pull it up from the gear selector, There is a little square piece that I think locks the Handle in place that broke and I think thats the problem. I'll check it out today and see exactly whats wrong
