Red face Learned something today

Well, I reak of diesel right now.
I changed my fuel filters tonight.
Changed the engine filter first, that went well. I got but a drop or 2 on myself from that one. The frame filter(pre pump filter) is a different story. It seems that with a full tank of fuel, it siphons down and out the filter mount and runs down you arm after removing the filter. I guess I should have known this, but it didn't occur to me at the time. I ended up with a needle nose vise grip and a wad of shop towel to pinch off the fuel flow to finish changing it out. Lesson learned.

Funny how the simple things tend to slip our mind. 1/4 tank is a good idea, also parking facing uphill tends to help a little also.

1/4 tank??? No way, it would cost my first born to fill it up from there. It was slightly up hill, but with 36+ gallons in the tank it wasn't enough.

All you need to do is wait till your first born is a teenager. Then it won't seem like such a bad trade.

Just wondering, when did they stop with the pre pump filter on the frame rails? My 03 doesn't have one.

That's because you haven't ADDED one yet.

A lot of us have, though.

And that would be a GOOD thing...

It's part of the "Hutch" (AKA "in-tank") mod. Look at guzzle's write up and/or the instruction sheet on the ITP Diesel website.

I put in a Dahl, because it's also a "real-life" water separator. They're used quite extensively in marine diesel applications.

I put some pics of it in my gallery. Look in folks' sigs to see if they have, too. It should give you some ideas on how to do it, and where.
