To begin with I'm not rich so for me to buy a brand new transmission is way out of the question. So with that said I have a 01 f250 psd sc 4x4 and the transmission is gone. I have posted about this in the past. My Uncle owns a slavage yard for trucks and SUV's only and told me he would sell me a trans out of a 99 f350 for $500 and says that it drives fine no problems and has low mileage. My question is will it fit in my truck? they are both 4r100 so why wouldnt they? If it does fit I will be doing some minor upgrades to it but I need to know if it will fit. Anyhelp is much appreciated.
Since you didn't say, be absolutely sure that the one your uncle has is at least behind a 7.3 PowerStroke.
The diesel 4R100's have some stronger parts to enable them to handle the additional torque.
HOWEVER, the early ones didn't have as many strong parts as the later-years did, and since you have a bunch of horsepower goodies listed in your sig, my guess is that a '99 used tranny will be real short-lived. You lunched a stock '01. You're gonna' do it again with a '99, for sure!
Or, you could consider removing the DP.
Good advice about replacing the torque converter, Ron. He's going to need one at any rate.
So this is good news. Thanks to all of you. Since the trans is gonna be out I would like to install the transgo tugger kit but I lnow nothing about them, where to get them and how difficult they would be to install in the new ( to me) trans would be. Anyone have any input on this?
Transgo install thread. Click I think you can find them on ebay for a decent price, don't know if you can get them from a site sponsor for around the same price or not. Someone else probably will know.
also make sure that truck he is talking about has the Diesel and not the V10.....they both have the 4R100, but I think there are some differences between them.
I hate to talk about the "others" but the last time I was there I think I saw at least 3 cummins motors. One of them for sure was a 12 valve. Whats good about this place is that if he doesnt have it he can get it.
