On all '51 & '52 right inner fender panels (F-1 to F-6 ) located near the top front as seen in jmadsen thread entitled Free Fenders pic #5-5-08026 a purposefull indentation appears . Both of mine have it .Does anyone know why that indentaion is there and what it is for ? Thanks ,Denny
Do you mean this one (see circled dent)? I've seen it. I think it may just be "extra" metal that has nowhere else to go when they stamp them out, there is nothing to clear or attach there.
I looked at mine when I was sanding for paint, it was too smooth to be anything but "on purpose". I think you'd have to do major shrinking to get it flat.
ALBUQ F-1 ,yes that is the factory indentation in question .It is there for a reason .One of which we have not recieved an answer yet .I think it would be quite a task to make it disappear .
I don't recall seeing it on my tins for the 48 but mine are out for blasting and primer right now. I don't see how it would be terribly hard to make it disappear. Cut it out with a zip disc, cut out a plug of the appropriate shape and thickness and weld it in. Use a flap disc to grind down the weld and viola...there it is....gone.
