Motorcraft Carb Jets

Anyone know where I can get these.? I need a pair of #60's and can't find them anywhere.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Dealer can't get them, auto parts shops only stock the holleys.

Motorcraft Carb Jets

I just went through the same dilema, my carb was lean and I needed bigger jets. The speed shop I go to didn't have them. I was told the dealers wouldn't. It was suggested I go to a certain mechanic shop or a Carb specialty store around here called Carbs unlimited. Thge mechanical shop didn't have the size jets I wanted but I got a bigger size. They said there supply is what they have, that they can't get anymore. A week later I went to the carb place and they had the right jets.... they also kept what I had in there, so I take it that they are really getting scarce. So I'd look for a carb specialty shop and hope they have a supply, or consider going to an Edelbrock/Carter... or Holley carb. I have a Holley 2V sitting around I rebuilt but haven't tried useing... at least I can get jets for it.

Are you running a 351 two barrel?

Do you know what size jets you had? and which you changed to?

My carb had #54's and I'm wanting to go to #58 or #60. I've basically been told by every one to drill out the old jets, but it's difficult to find accurate drill bits.

Ya really don't need anything special to drill jets. Just get an appropriate (size designated by number) drill bit and clamp the bit in a Vise-Grip. Gently rotate the jet between thumb and forefinger until you have drilled through, then slide the jet up and down a couple of times to smooth the hole. This method is very easy to control. When drilling jets I go up by one drill size at a time. To shrink them, carefully solder the hole shut without tinning the jet threads, then drill to size desired. Carbs are rather crude devices, and ya really don't need extreme precision so long as the jet has no burrs and the engine runs well.

These folks sell the Motorcraft jets for $10.00 a pair. Mine were shipped promptly. Of late, I can't seem to get the e-mail response from them, but I believe they ship right away.

Jets at 2,200 feet, gaskets and threads

The local carburetor shop uses what they describe as a "Special set of drill bits from Snap-on" to drill out jet "blanks". These jets have a tapered hole going in, and out. They just enlarge the hole to customer specs.

This sounds a bit hokey, since SO does not have such a set available, but they only charged $10.00 for the set. They filed off the original jet number of #4(something).

My stock automatic 360 runs OK on a #57 this way, but it is a touch lean in the cool winter temperatures of 40-60 degrees F. There is a slight lean spot after idle, and I can feel the power valve kicking in. This is the very leanest I would use at this altitude and I think they are right in using a #60 for performance at 2,200 feet.

I did find the drill bit sizing for the H*lley c*rbs, and the M*torcraft version. They are not the same except at the crossing point around #58 or so. I forget which is which, but only one is similar to drill bit sizing. If you make your own, I would just get the bits, and put up with a slight mismatch. Then, finally buy the one set you need.

Are the H*lley and F*rd THREADS the same?

If anyone can find just the gaskets for the float bowl, do post the source. N*PA is all out at the factory level. I want five.

Luck,

Kevin
