Congrats Mike. Sounds like ya'll had a very productive day. Wish I wasn't so far from Arkansas, I would have come up to meet everyone. Just got through with the GPR LED mod. Was surprised how long the glow plugs are on after the WTS light goes off.
Dave,
I had to work this morning so I didn't get to call you guys. Sounds like ya'll had fun.
Will do. We have our annual church fundraiser tomorrow and will be helping out. I will call when I get back home and before I play catch up with my own weekend projects.
OT: I'm about the same age as Cookie -- I turn 38 in June. Whew.... Hard to believe. I found some old pics and put them up on a military board I'm on. One of me in uniform in 1989 in Italy, another in 1998 in Bosnia, and one from 2008 (last month) here in Texas. Man, I think I have more miles on me than my truck has..
I was in in 89 and 98....in 08 I'm still on base, just under a DOD contract instead of wearing the uniform.
You going to retire next year or just keep chugging along?
I'm actually in the Air Guard now. I went in a bit after coming off active duty, so I don't plan on slowing down just yet. In fact, I'm hoping to pull an Active Guard position and ride that to a 20 year retirement. But that needs to happen real soon -- running out of time to do it before I want to retire.
Just sitting here thinking....I've had a couple more thoughts about yesterdays fun that I'd like to discuss.
First is the DP chip. Anybody have any pics of a decent mount for the F5 switch? We just kind of left Mikes's hanging...pinched between the dash panels. I was underwhelmed with the little piece of velcro and the "just stick it to the dash somewhere" instructions. Anybody bought and used the DP mount? I also didn't like the fact that the electrical connector has no locking mechanism. It seems to me that if it will shut your truck down by removing it.....it should be on a little more securely. The programming is nice though...the 140 tune is strong.
Next...the one, and only, thing I didn't like about the Di-pricol gauges was the pyro's thermocouple only came with a threaded bung for a mount. I'm not a big fan of drilling cast, so Dave and I made a clamp mount for the up pipe. NBD, but it would have saved us half an hour if it had come with the clamp on option like some of the other's thermocouple kits.
I mounted my F5 switch next to the ESOF switch on the dash. I measured the connection on the back of the switch and transferred it to the dash. I drilled two holes inside the rectangle shaped marks and finished it with a file. The connector fits snug in the hole and the switch is attached with some commercial grade velcro. The cable is tied to a brace behind the dash. It has been holding fine this way. It is easier to see and is within reach. There is a picture of my F5 switch in my gallery.
Clean install. Looks good....but I think if it were mine I'd prefer a mount that didn't require a hole in the middle of the dash....Something reverseable.
Thanks guys.
I got tired of it "dangling" from the crack between the dash. Kept accidently hitting the buttons and switching the programs. Steering wheel was also blocking its view. I figure that I was going to keep my truck a long time so why not cut a hole in the dash.

I tried to figure out someting different, but I said WTH and made a hole. If I ever get rid of the truck (many, many years from now), I will probably be leaving the switch in there anyway. I didn't like the pod mount bracket. I have enough things reflecting at night off my tinted windows as it is.
POD mount not a problem for me. I say that is the way to go. I mounted my thermocouple bung in the up pipe without a clamp. Been there for years now with no issues.

That's what I'm looking for a picture of. Didn't see it in your gallery.

I think I remember the thread talking about you doing that...way back when
In retrospect, that would have been the easiest thing to do...but I left my tap set at the house anyway, so making a clamp was really our only option for getting done in a reasonable amount of time.
