Well, I didn't get them all painted......just two.
I must have had a brain fart or something. After hours of sanding and priming, I went to paint them and realized that I had two different sizes!
Two are 16 X 7 which I need for my new tires, and two are 16 X 6 which I now have a total of 11! Two complete sets of wheels and tires and a spare.
I painted them to match my truck and I'm going to put some chrome lug nuts and some aftermarket chrome centers (front and rear) if they will fit the 5"
center holes.
All this is getting ready for the Sterling 10.25 rear and Dana 60 front axle that is going in.
What a PITA getting paint to flow on these! It's nearly impossible to get the paint down in the section where the center is welded to the outer.
I love the look of the steelies but cant bring myself to keep them on a truck. Why dont you throw some trim rings on there too? They would look pretty good with the chrome lugs and centers.
Nice job, I do not know why Ford changed the 8 lug steelies to silver or grey, I always liked them white. Soon I will be doing the same. I also like the trim ring idea. You don't see many 16" steelies w/ them either. That would look sharp. I have seen them in the LMC catalog though if you want new ones and can't find them elsewhere.
lookin good, i love the look of steelies, i would keep mine but the mags look a little better on my truck right now. bet that after i paint the truck that i will try to do the steelies again. Keep up the good work. Dan
I might just do that. Finding 16" trim rings isn't that easy though.
Especially a set of 4 nice ones.
I *might* still have the 4 that came with my truck when I bought it 5 years ago. I'll look around in the storage shed this week and if I have them I'll send them to ya.
Wow, they do look great!
Are they going on the white truck they're pictured in?
Years ago I pulled the argent plastic wheel covers off my truck.
Because they looked silly (to me) and would load up with mud/snow bad enough to shake the wheel out of your hands when driving.
Painted the rims grey and installed the '85-6 dog dish hubcaps.
Now they look as beat up as the rest of my truck and I'm thinking I ought to paint them again.
Last I checked I was told the dog dish fronts were NLA and the rears were OOP, but still available.

Uncle.Stosh, I looked through my storage shed today but I couldn't find the trim rings for you. They must've rolled away to a better home or a mouse is using them for frisbees. Sorry I couldn't find them for you.

That's ok. Thanks anyway.
I actually picked up a complete pair at one of the junk yards that other day. I put them on my original wheels with the dog dish center caps. I like the look ok, but I don't think I'm going to put them on my new wheels.
They look like they'd tear up the paint pretty bad getting them on and off. Plus, with the dog dish center caps on, you can barely see any of the white wheel.
I think I'm going to just get some aftermarket 5" center caps and put some chrome lugs on them. The paint is finally dry enough to mount the tires, so I'll post some pics of the two that are done hopefully tomorrow.
I'm curious to see if they can mount and balance the tires without tearing up my newly painted steelies. They say they can, let's see.
