I need a replacement rear bumper for the truck in my sig. About 2 weeks ago my truck was hit in a parking lot and the person that hit me left the scene while I was inside the store and there were no cameras or witnesses. The bumper is toast along with the support pieces underneath. Needless to say the guy who hit me knows he did it and probably did some damage to his truck. Any way I need a new rear bumper. I am thinking of going with a Ranch Hand, probably will order monday. I need to be able to keep this in budget of less than $600, but I thought I would ask and see if there was anything else out there that you guys and gals like and like the fit of? I want this bumper to have a factory fit, but look custom if you know what I mean. Also anyone who has a Ranch Hand bumper how do you like the fit and finish? Thanks.
Checked ebay and classifieds here. I am really looking for opinions on what others have, or have seen and liked.
The front is not in the budget right now, if I would have known about this site last april I would have done front then. They day I bought the truck some @$$ hole at work did a hit and run on the front bumper, I had it replaced with a factory one at the time. It is in the plan for the future to get a replacement front bumper, but just not right now, the rear bumper is the one I need now. I just figured it was kind of dumb to replace the rear bumper with a factory one, when I want an aftermarket one some day. So while this is a pain and is going to cost me about $100 out of pocket if I do the work myself, I thought it would be a good idea to do it now.
Ranch Hands are pretty much awesome. I haven't towed a lot with one (using a ball on the bumper), but they hold up well to general abuse otherwise. They guy I know who has one put anti-slip pads on the top of it, so we don't bust our butts when it gets wet. I personally really like the full RH set up with the pipe bumpers.
I got a RH Grille Guard and it's top notch. Tough as hell. I weigh like 175 and I can sit anywhere on the RH and it won't even flinch. Stoutest grille guard I've seen.
I can't imagine the rear bumpers would be any less! They look pretty good on the SD. I think they're decent on the F150 though.
If you do a RBR, you gotta do the FBR too. It's only fair to your truck lol.
if you tow at all i would go with a frontier rear bumper since it allows you to still use the factory hitch vs the ranchhand that you put a ball on it or a bolt on hitch.

but if you dont tow i would go with the ranchhand style bumper (numerous people make them for a cheaper price) cause they are built for strength..
I talked to both Ranch Hand the dealer I am buying it from and they both said that with an 8" you can retain your factory reciever hitch. Only the 10" drop does not allow you to keep the factory reciever hitch. I will be going with an 8" drop, and from what it looks like, that it is about the same height as the factory bumper.

my apology i didn't explain that correctly... what i mean is you cannot use a ball mount from say walmart or tractor supply it will be too short, you will have to buy an extended mount/hitch. If you use a weight distrubution hitch you will have to notch the new bumper cause the bottom of the bumper is wider than the stock and then throw in the ranchhand style bumpers sticks out farther then the stock so it makes the distance to the factory hitch a longer distance. the height isn't the issue it is the amount it sticks out from the factory bed.
with the frontier i mean is, it is the same size all the way around as the factory bumper which allows you to use a standard 2 inch ball hitch that you see everywhere cause the base is alot smaller than a ranchhand.
Hopefully someone will post some pics on a ford to show you what i'm talking about cause i dont have my dodge (same style bumper and setup) any more to take pics tovillustratewhat i mean. that is why when you look at ranch hands website you'll see them push a bolt on hitch (that reduces the weight being able to tow) cause you cannot reach the factory receiver without a extended hitch. Curt Manufactors are the makers of the one that worked on my old truck.
You can tow off a ranchhand style bumper it is very common around here but it makes it easier to dent your trailer during a tight turn or maneuvering around in reverse (depending on the style of trailer) with a ranchhand due to the length it sticks out. I just prefer a factory hitch.
i went searching for a couple pics.. if you look at these pics notice how are the bumper sticks out cause they are made to be used as the primary towing source as the first pic shows.
