I just bought a 1996 Ford F150 Northland Edition 4x4 pickup with a 302 engine with overdrive option transmission. I am looking for inexpensive ways to increase the horsepower and gas mileage of the engine. It has 32,300 miles, never pulled anything, maintenced at appropriate times. I have added motor up to the motor which seems to have added a little bit and shortly will be adding a k&n air filter. Always make sure that the tires are properly inflated also. Any ideas of inexpensive ways to increase horsepower and mileage would be welcome.
Also, it seems for highway driving with the 302, the overdrive kicks in just going up small hills, not to mention several times on big hills. Is it best to drive with overdrive off on the highway?? I imagine kicking in and out of overdrive isn't good for mileage either.
