Huh? In that case, I'm pretty sure who ever made the ZF 6 Speed for ford, or whoever designed the 6 speed manual for dodge would be long dead by now. Mercedes and Lexus have 7 - 8 speed autos now as well.

Fords 5 speed auto has "4" regular gears and one over drive. Adding another overdrive gear would require the addition of another planetary, adding a lot to expense
