<TABLE width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD vAlign=top>My buddy gave me this 1987 ford F250 for nothing. Ive spent about 3500 bucks just getting it to smog and get it driveable. my problem is a lifter noise and the #1 piston is fowling out and mis fireing. is there an easy fix for this. my other thing is I have another buddy thats giving me and 302 HO motor minus the heads, will this fit in my truck? if so what kinda heads should I use the original equiptment is fuel injected and I want to stay with that for smog purposes.

Are you sure it's not a broken valve spring?
Rather than throwing money at it I would start by doing a leakdown test on all cylinders.
Changing out a cam and lifters isn't such a big job, but you should do the timing set and waterpump while you're in there.
Nothing on the 302 will fit, and by this I mean frame perches, motor mounts, transmission or clutch bellhousing, radiator, computer ect....
That's a huge mess you'd probably be better off avoiding.
Plus the torque #'s don't make sense for a big truck like this.

I thought the 302 and the 302HO used the same short block but different heads, cams ect ect.
Hey thanks I appreciate the info. Im only paying 50 bucks for the HO motor. but if its not going to fit then maybe Ill sell it or trade it for someting I can use.
I pulled the valve cover off and pulled both rockers off of the number one hole and the second rocker over was the culprate. i poured some atf down into the lifter that was making the noise and put it all back together. the lifter noise is gone. I then pulled the foweled plug out and cleaned it. but it still acts like it has a miss or a fowled plug. Im guessing that maybe the injector is plugged from driving on a missfiring cylender for so long. what do you think and would 24lb injectors be helpful to this engine?
the 302HO would fit where a 302 is,but the OP did not state what engine was in his truck. We can't really say if it would fit because we don't what the original engine in his 87 is.
