I purchased a 2001 Super Crew 4x4 Lariat yesterday.
Has the off-road and tow-package. Does this mean it has the limited slip? I bought it used from the dealer (20K mi), the salesman said sure it did, but I would like to make sure.
Also, I was reading this morning about the Radiator issue, where the tow package should have the 1.42" thick radiator, but is installed with the 1". Sure enough I have the smaller one. Does anyone have any further advice/info on getting this corrected. I am in southern CA, will go to every dealer around to get it fixed if necessary.
You can go to the dealer you bought it from and see the service dept. Ask them to pull the information on your truck, from their computer system. It is by VIN number. If the truck was not originally ordered from that dealer, then they can pull a twix (thats what they call it) on your truck and find out what dealer ordered it from Ford. It will say on the printout if it really has limited slip.
Also you can go down to almost any tire shop and they can lift up the back and tell you if its limited slip or not. I think that when they did this for my (older f-150) they raised the back end on a jack and turned one tire by hand one way and the other one turned the other way. Also you can do a burn out in the road or dirt and both tires should lock up fairly quickly, if one tire leaves a long track and the other one dosen't leave any track then you DON'T have limited slip.
Hey Congrats Jeff on your new truck !
Just find some gravel and STEP on the gas hard. This should hopefully answer your limited slip question... ...and its a heck of alot more fun than going back to the dealer. HaHa CD
