ChaseTruck754, it seems to me that the conversion would be a great enhancement to the hauling of toys. I have done the Brake upgrade to my F150 supercab, so the next thing would be axles. YOu say you have pics etc...?

Why bother...? Why not just get a dana 60 (very common and cheap) or better a 70.

Because you can still keep the 5 lug wheels, for one.

I believe you can keep the 5x5.5 bolt pattern by using aftermarket hubs on a floater d60 as well.

The 9" floater stuff us desert guys do is WAAAY overkill for what you want and WAAAAAAAAAAY out of most people's price ranger.

What do you want to see pics of?

The floater I am building for the ranger uses mostly parts from Speedway - the link is below. Speedway Engineering's Tubes and Snouts

Also - you can upgrade axles without doing a floater. Are you just looking to take some of the load off the axle bearings by going floater or what? What benefit do you see by doing this?

But to swap in a cheap junkyard 60 or 70 will give you 8 lug. You can get the custom hubs, but then you might as well keep the 9", IMO.

Agreed - he might as well keep the 9" if a 5 lug floater is what he is after. I was just making the point that it can be done the other way around.

Just to play devil's advocate on this - It might be cheaper in the long run to get a rear d60 or 70 and swap out the hubs, then to build an entire 9" floater that is beefy...

And in my best homer simpson voice "mmmm - floater..."

well whats the big deal with staying with 5 lugs? You can get 8 lug rims from any junkyard for cheap i'm sure. You could run 8s in the rear and 5s up front...or you could upgrade to a d60 up front.

I just dont think keeping an 5 lug would be worth all the trouble it would take to make a full floater out of a 9 inch.

a full floater is easy to make out of a 9". Easier than swapping out both front and rear axles etc.

Heck it's almost easier than having to deal with double spare tires because you're running different lug patterns front and rear - ghetto
