Hi. I have an 02 7.3 4x4 super cab. I have been thinking abut replacing the air intake, as i have finally used up the supply of airfilters i have. I have heard the factory setup get a bad rap basically since i first bought the truck new. My question is do any of the systems or mods actually imporve milage on a stock truck? My truck doesnt really have to work hard towing my 17 ft boat. My mpg has allways been pretty good but just wondered if any really do help increase. Thanks Joe
I got the newer S-B intake with the snorkel. Lifetime filter, oiled. No problems. But if your not planning on exhaust(mods) alot of guys gut the stock airbox and put in the napa filter 6637.
I've got the 6637 and it worked wonders for my truck. Rollin' down the feeway with the zoodad mod makes a huge difference, especially when you need to pass...
Could get K&N 33-2248 but right in your you could get cold air K&N 57-2530 they r both great filters they do not make K&N for my 08 f250 6.4l I use 51-31262 AFE it about the same as the K&N I find it works great I get better fuel economy & horse power does matter which one you use
Don't waste yoru money on a K&N unless you want to dust your turbo and trash it. I vote for the 6637 (have one on my truck). Order a filter cover for it from Pete (send email to filtercovers@gmail.com). Then, build yourself a cold air box for it- do a search here and you should find a post by Chris (F350-6) on building a cold air setup. You don't need the cold air box, but without it you tend to get a droning sound in the cab with the 6637-the cold air box gets rid of this noise according to those who have done it (on my to-do list still).
Agreed don't do K&N...these guys on here know what they are talking about and i put some dinky POS intake on my truck and dealt with horrible mpg and it made a racket under the hood...i switched over to the 6637 mod and will never look to anything ever. you get better mpg...you know ur getting a lot of air to that turbo...and it's just nice to show off how ridiculously large the thing is...haha

You'd consider putting a K&N on what is probably a 50k truck? I would not go back to that product if they were giving them away, and paid me to use it.

Yahtzee. I wouldn't even wipe my **** with the one I took out of my truck after I bought it.
There was a report going around a while ago that presents the results of an ISO 5011 test of several air filters designed for the GM Duramax Diesel. The test was independently performed under controlled conditions using a $285,000 machine at Testand Corp of Rhode Island (manufacturer of the machine). Arlen Spicer, a GM Duramax Diesel owner/enthusiast organized the test in 2004 and according to what it said, the K&N was the least efficient of the 9 major brands tested at capturing dirt. Don't know if it's true but I'm sure one of the guys on this forum has more details.
I am running both the 6637 and the AIS and I personally like the AIS better. It has better filtration and better airflow(at least my truck likes it better than the 6637), but that is just my personal opinion and experience.
