Hey guys got the tugger kit for my tranny (4r100)thinking about installing it till I went through the instructions. Has anyone does this kit themselves? Hard or easy to do, or is there better instructions than what comes with the kit?
There aren't better instructions. I believe it says right on the box " for professional use only" or something like that. You are supposed to know what you are doing already. Izzy has installed the Tugger and I have installed the E40D-HD2 kit which is very similar. Just toss out the instructions, then look for a place to install all of this:
JK. What do you want to know specifically? Are you pulling the tranny?

Never opened a tranny before, but when ordered was hoping I could do this myself to save money. Saw in the box of goddies a drill bit and other small pieces and found the instructuions a little different to follow. I do not want to pull the tranny, I thought with this kit you do not have to, but noticed a big retaining clip. I will also check the transgo web site also.
The HD2 kit is very similar to the Tugger. Just doesn't include the parts to modify the front pump, which requires removal to do. I did all these mod while rebuilding/ upgrading the trans. There may be a few other parts included that won't be used unless you have the trans apart. Some mods to the valve bodies are model specific.

Thanks for the help gonna look at it tonight...........

Well thats close least it is in the truck. Ya the box scares me, it was ok till I saw drill bits....
Folks, I will try to do the writeup, or something similar here tonight after I wrap up a few loose ends. Stupid rain. The video is good, but does not even cover the plate or the solenoid pack. I will check back. You really can do this yourself. BTW, my kit has the or at least some front pump mods. I did not do those.
Just get started. The instructions aren't actually all that bad if you follow it word for word. The only major SNAFU that I *almost* jacked up and Mike did was the procedure for pulling the solenoid pack out. It doesn't tell you to pull the connector from up top. I started to pry on it after pulling all the screws and stopped when I felt there MUST be something I was missing. I just put the screws back in and left it. Mike can go into more details because he has pics, but it really isn't all that bad. I put it off for months -- I would do it in a heartbeat now. My only advice is to do one valve at a time when you pull the accumulator VB out. It would be way too easy to get springs & parts mixed up if you tear the whole thing apart and try to do them all at once. When you do one at a time, it's really obvious what springs go where.
I did the main VB mods, and the accumulator mods and that's it. I didn't pull the tranny to do the pump/TC lockup mods and don't regret it at all. It shifts nice & firm -- WAY better than before!!
Thanks Joe, I am back. I need to start by scanning the instructions. This may take a while because I need to edit in some text too, then save. I already have all the pics I am going to have so the instructions are about it.
BTW, the only reason your solenoid pack didn't come out is because you are a girly man.
Sorry bout that. You just don't know if there was something to do there. Now after I do the writeup, you may need to weigh in on the main VB stuff because I didn't feel the need to touch mine so left it alone. I had to rescan the instructions cause the res was way to low. Damit.
