What's the advantage to using the 6637 air filter?? Who makes it? I have a S & B air box now, it has a K & N type cone media on it now.

It is just a paper filter made by WIX or NAPA. Should be better at trapping dirt than a K&N filter and doesn't need to be oiled.

Do a search for Tymar and you can read more, but here is the short of it.

Cheap (cost effective) intake upgrade. Remove part of your airbox and install this filter. More air means something different to everyone. MPG/Power/Sound/lower EGT, take your pick.

Only need filter and short piece fo 4" exhasut and a clamp.

you can get the filter here

FleetFilter.com

And Pete make a cool cover for it too!

I would deff take that K&N fitler off and put a 6637 MOD filter. It will trap alot more dirt then the K&N and potentially save u some turbo troubles down the road. BTW i second petes filter covers. Id go down to the 7.3 forum and ask for him to make you one. They are pretty nice.

The S & B air box has a cover.......I bet I could fit that the 6637 into the box and shove it on the 4" pipe that comes into the airbox, don't know, I will look into it. Thanks for the advice. I wondered how much those K & N style filters did anyway and thought a disposable one would be eaier than messing with the "oil".

Another high recommendation for the DIY intake! Side benefit is you can hear the turbo whistle better and since I've done it I have noticed my mpg up a hair 0.5-1 consistently.

How does the Airaid system compare? It was on the X I just bought and looks a lot like the cone type K&Ns.

I have an AFE stage 1 and just had to really clean it after 20K. Is there a replacement paper filter for that box???I really did notice a difference after adding that set-up. On my 7.4L 'Burb,I had a K&N and it didn't seem to help,so I replaced it with a HD Fram and there was a difference then.

If your into turbo whistle, you cant forget the Foil Delete Mod. The Foil Delete Mod + 6637 Filter = One loud turbo

Yes the Wix 6637 & 4" exhaust pipe! I have not ordered a cover yet, but I'm seriously thinking about it!

I've read it's a fun job removing the foil, so I'm eager to do it, yet dreading it if you know what I mean......

Yeah.....FUN as in a real huge pain in the A$$! But I know it will be worth in once I'm done and can really hear it sing the high notes! The 6636....did you fat finger that or is their a difference between that and the 6637?

Even with the high diesel prices, you will never regret the 7.3l.....IMHO! But I have to say, I'm actively looking into BioDiesel.......another great benefit!

I have a brand new 6637 filter that I bought that I do not need. I was going to use it but decided to use an AEM intake instead. Let me know if anyone is interested or is in need.
