He stopped the pump at 5 gallons and his had markers on the side telling the amount in there. He barely had 4.5 gallons in it when the pump said 5 gallons even.
That means, if you're filling up a 36 gal tank, you're paying for $14.72 cents worth of fuel that you aren't getting (assuming fuel is $4.09), or a deficit of 3.6 gallons. That could definitely throw off any mileage calculation.
I did the math. Say hypothetically, you traveled 700 miles on a 36 gallon tank. Assuming it was filled up, you get about 19.44 miles/gallon. If you have a deficit of 3.6 gallons, you'll assume you had 36 gallons in there, when really you only have 32.4 gallons in there. That drops your mileage calculation down to 17.5 MPG.
Just had an interesting phone confab with one of the well known members here. I would swear on my Mother's grave that my mpg I just got is the worst I've ever gotten in all the years I've owned this truck. He said it's possible that I just got screwed by this truck stop in GA. It is very possible that their pump's are far enough out of calibration to give me what I consider shocking numbers. I wish I had a 5 gallon can with me, or even a 1 gallon with me to check his theory. Anyone else ever experienced this situation.

Off enough that the manager refunded him part of the bill and shut the pump down. Just wonder how many gallons were sold prior to that.
It's bad when it is a honest mistake and something all together differant when it is on purpose, that's grounds for out right war.
10% of a fill up is a dang lot and will really screw up you mileage calculations. That's what I was telling Mark and why I don't put much stock in mileage calculations no matter how you do it. The only way you can be 100% sure what you mileage is, would be to first pump into a measured container then pour in your tank. I am like Mark, I am tempted to start checking the guys, now that fuel is $4.25 per gallon. .43 cent is worth the effort to make sure its close.
Man...I did NOT need to hear that!!! It serves to confirm a suspicion that I have been having lately...damn it!!!!
Mark what was your other tank mpg before this one. Ive been waiting for you to make this trip, your truck already get's good mpg. I want to see if Jody can improve on the mpgs on your way home.
I'm back at the RV, Jody had that thing out done and back and running in less than an hour. I got the exact same thing as Barry. I did compromise the test a little. I let it idle last night for at least an hour trying to stay warm in that clown Gore's global warming that does not seem to be affecting even Georgia. I drove 30 mile's to Jody's and last night in the truck stop on the Superchip. Found fuel at mile 104 I-85 SC for $3.91. It got 21.5 mpg, so no complaints on this end. I would bet anything that that Petro screwed me either intentially or by accident. But there is no way I only get 17.9 at 63 mph. I did try the 120 setting when I reached the road where I'm parked. WOT fried the tires and the first smoke I've seen since we put the 6637 in just before I drove to Alaska last time. Jody played with the smoke setting before I left his place so that may explain a little of the mpg. I fully expect to be back up to 24 mpg as soon as I get back to my Alta Kaaka driving that is an economic requirement for me nowadays.

Yes I did, it was miserable. I'm getting way too old for that crap. My last trip to Alaska I spent 6 nights in the truck. I was nearly dead when I reached Fairbanks. All I could hold down for 2 days was yogurt. That's info I'm sure all of you needed.

Id say its a possibiltiy Mark.
From what I have found, it is OK for them to be off as much a 10% and some states only check them every 4 or 5 years unless someone complains, then yes, we are sorta at their mercy. I guess now that fuel has topped the $4.00 mark, it is time to check them ourselves.

Mark, sorry I missed you call earlier, even I have to sleep once in a while. Trying to get ready to head out to GA myself. I will call you on the road.
EDIT: Mark, you missed one, I also got the 80T for my boat.

Jody missed it, not me. I just told him I wanted the same thing you got and I did not have my computer on at the time so I took his word for it. I did tell him the only thing I thought I would ever tow was my Vdub though, so maybe he went by that. That thing can't weigh 1800 pounds at the most.

You could tow that in your 80"E" setting. No need for the tow tune.
I'm going to try the stock tune if I drive the truck this weekend. Don't know as I also accomplished stopping at a DMV in SC and finally got the plates for the Vdub. Very impressed with SC's Dmv service. I was in and out in a half an hour. It took me almost 4 hours to get the NC title, and then another 3 weeks to the day to get it in the mail. But I remember when my Superchip died a few years ago and I was stock for 10 days or so I did not even like the truck anymore.
Just for the Hell of it, I drove mine around today in the stock setting. Man, y'all that are running without some sort of performance chip haven't got a clue what you're missing out on. It even makes me appreciate my old chip.

I had to drive mine a couple times stock for a week or so and couldn't believe I was once happy that way
after replacing hypertec with DP pulling the hills in Ga I couldn't believe how much better it done again, where it use to downshift it just started pulling harder in OD in either tune
BTW seems my best in town fuel milage is in 40T
Had to do an unplanned for fillup today cuz I did a man a favor with my truck and he wanted to fill it up so I gotta post these results after only 312 miles. 75 of them on the 80 setting with one WOT blast in the 120 setting, the rest on 60T. These are all city and country backroad driving, but the bottom line turned out to be 21.2 mpg. I did not really care for the 60T setting because it downshifted too much on little hills. Which North Carolina is riddled with. I now have it on the 80 setting and will try and make it though most of the 39 gallons with it on that, and do my best to keep my foot in connection with my common sense.

Come on now Mark. You haven't had the tuner that long so don't worry about connecting that foot with the dreaded common sense just yet. Go ahead and rip off a couple more 120hps and maybe a 140hp.
