i just put a new fuel filter on my 92 7.3idi. i replaced the big o-ring between the filter and the water separator and put a dab of oil on it like the destructions said. now the separator leaks at the drain valve. it just seeps when it's sitting but when the truck is running it drips pretty good. is there anything i may need to know before i take it back off to check it out?
yeah, it's closed all the way. also, i examined it closer last night and it turns out it was water from the the a/c condencer i saw dripping under the truck but the separator is still seeping a little when the truck is running. it's not as bad as i thought. it could have been seeping before i replaced the filter, i dunno. is there an o-ring on the valve that can be replaced? i looked at oreilly's web site and i can't find the separator.

The water separator is a FORD item, and runs around $300 bucks.
Sorry to correct you, but the fuel filter base is a Navastar item repackaged by Ford. I paid $130.00 for one 12 months ago from Ford it was special order. They do make a seal kit that replaces that valve seals. Mine was leaking from the Srader valve so I just got a new base. I think it was the Ultra Low Sulfer Diesel (ULSD) that took out most of my rubber in my 92 F 250 XLT 4X4. The injector return lines started and the day I replaced them I also replaced the fuel filter and the base started leaking then.
stupid question, the "valvestem" on the side of the fuel filter housing, is that there to drain water in the fuel, or relieve pressure from the fuel system?
My question is what is the purpose of the schrader valve on the base for? It is just next to the drain valve. Sorry about my spelling of schrader on my first post.
ok so if the "valvestem" is used to check pressure, and relieve air from the fuel system, can it be used to bleed when reinstaling a new fuel filter, or changing fuel injectors, or do you have to do it at the the injector couplings only. i know stupid question but its been an unsolved question ive had. thank you all for all your help
