Everyone else forgets about Rita. I was working in port arthur. I went back to work just a few days after rita. Everything around was destroyed.
The National guard let me back in Cameron Parish a couple days after, so I could start getting my store back up and ruunning. I had the only hardware in the area. Now the feed part was in the pasture behind me and lots of my roof was off. I had bundles of post floating down the highway.
If you wanted to see distruction, you should have come to Cameron. Nothing left.
I went to the Cameron area about 4 months later. After I left Lake Charles there wasn't anything. It had been several years since I had been there. I remembered where stores used to be. We don't need anything like that again
