I have a 1999 F250 V10 4x4. I need to replace a front rotor and I am having trouble finding one. The local shops have sent over 3 different rotors and all were wrong. I sent the old rotor over to CarQuest and none of the ones listed on their computer match the old rotor. Any suggestions?
Sorry, but this should be a simple straight forward deal. I've had rotors replaced on a 99 250 and never had any troubles.
Never had any trouble? You've been lucky, or had them replaced by a dealer, or you don't have 4WD.
There are 5 different front rotors listed for 1999 F250 4WD's = FIVE!
It depends on the front axle stamping number, the GVW (over/under 8500 lbs), production date (before/after 3/22/99), axle ratio.
FISHPOET = the front rotors for 4WD trucks are listed in the front driving axle section...I need the front AXLE code TAG number & the production date to give you the correct Ford part number.
Front AXLE code TAG number, without it, I can't help...there are FOUR front axle parts lists (Section 30: #182 / #189 / #191 / #192)
If the Ford part number is known, it can be cross referenced to the aftermarket rotor part number.
No you weren't sarcastic at all. I had no idea Ford had so many options on the 4wd models. For me it was simply walk in, give me 2 rotors and walk out.
That's why I'm glad we have people like you here who know better. Thanks.

Mi amigo, you have no idea...this is typical of Ford...if you think this is bad, just look in the parts catalog for 1973/79...there are over 100 parts lists for 4WD front axle parts.
Most ppl when they came to parts counters didn't have the Axle code, and it was a PITA, because all one could do, is compare one specific part number in one parts list with one in another.
1980 and later: emissions parts and fuel related parts can only be found in the Calibration Code (CC) Charts.
ONE specific yr, one specific model with one specific engine size, might have 30 different CC parts lists!
Overall, there are 800 CC parts lists for 1980/89's alone.
Cars? Don't even ask...they're worse!
If ppl think looking up part numbers is EZ, they have another think coming!
Yeah, those early 99 rotors are a pita. There IS a way to put the newer style rotors on, but you have to swap calipers too. It has been documented by a forum member somewhere, but I will have to dig around for the part numbers.
The early 99 seems to be the problem child. Nothing seems easy with them. So far for me. Track bar, blower motor and ubolts. Can't wait to do the brakes.
9/98 here. Geting ready to replace front rotors. Can't wait to go to NAPA and figure what ones I need. What a PITA! Where do I locate the axle code. Is there any other info I need to tell the parts guy to ensure I get what I need. Thanks
