What type of mileage can I expect from a 2000 extended cab with the 3.0 flex fuel, auto trans and four wheel drive? It's a step side bed if that matters. Will milage be better or worse when using that corn fuel? I would be running 87 octane through it. One other question. Truck has 141,000 miles on it. Anything to look for? Will it have a timing belt or chain?
Thanks,

i have that exact truck and i can tell you the mpg suck. i'm lucky to get 12-13 mpg combined driving. i've changed the plugs and filters but nothing helps. it's been a great truck otherwise. i believe that engine has a timing chain.
Thanks for the reply. I was really expcting better than that. I did a search for fuel mileage and was directed to the EPA site. What I found there was really pretty disappointing. Their claiming 14 city and 18 highway for it running on gas. 11 city and 14 running on E. That's pretty close to what I'm getting in my 20 year old 4.9 powered F-150. Here's a link to the site. Gas Mileage of 2000 Ford Ranger Pickup
I don't think Ford made a good decision putting that engine in a 4x4 Ranger. Don't get me wrong, I think it is a good engine, but not for a 4x4 Ranger. My wife had a '96 Sable with that engine (not flex fuel though) and she usually got ~25mpg in that car. Once on a road trip, 99% highway driving, I got 32mpg in that car. Seriously.
A good engine it is, A good truck engine it is not, IMHO
Currently my '94 4.0l/5spd ext. cab with 31" M/T tires and 3" body lift is getting 18 city/highway (10%/90%)
