replacing my 104k mile shocks on my 99 f250 with bilstiens. the shock bolts are worn, a little concave - not bent. dealer wants alot of money just for new bolts. can't get 12mm at local hardware stores on grade 5 or 8 ... just the standard grade, whatever the 8.8 stands for.
question is, are these bolts special in any way? should i go with:
a - the original worn bolt
b - the standard grade hardware store bolt
c - the oem dealer bolt
The bolts should have been 10.9 which is a higher grade then 8.8. That may be why they are bent.
I know when I replaced my front shocks I managed to twisted one off (it was rusted and not coming out any other way). I replaced it with a factory one but I did go to the hardware store (True Value) before hand and found the proper grade, lenght and size just in case. The factory bolts where both stamped with a 10.9 grade.
