Hard start after injector reinstall
I pulled an injector due to a glow plug falling into the bore (wich made it pretty easy to pick it up with a magneto on a slightly bent telescopic rod) and experience hard starts after reinstall. I did not put in new injector o-rings. Is this the reason it takes 5-10 seconds for it to fire? Or is it only air trapped in the system that needs to be worked out? Eventually how? Or will it cure itself? There is clear to me that there is a fuel issue as there is no smoke coming out of the tail pipe before it decides to fire. No blue smoke when driving it eighter.
Truck ran fine prior to injector pull.
Thanks!
Okay, when you pulled the injector most likely all the oil and fuel drained into that cylinder right. Then you evacuated it by sucking it out, or leaving the glow plug out and turning it over by hand....
Anyway, the point I was trying to make is this. Since all your oil for the high pressure system drained, it now has air in it. Yes, it will take some time to work it's way out. I would have put new orings, but in a pinch I guess if they were okay it should be alright. But that won't be your problem unless they were damaged. Usually it takes 30 to 40 miles of driving to work it out. And most guys here will tell you that you need to really run the crap out of it to purge air. Either way, it will purge itself and should return to running just as well as it did before.
So don't worry about the hard start, it happens to everyone who pulls injectors. It's just a fact of these motors. Don't stress. Just run it for a while and let us know how it goes. If the problem persists, I would go back with new orings. But I bet you a dollar you will be just fine.
Yep Rubber Duck the oil and fuel drained into the cylinder and I sucked it up, pulled fuse #9 and glowplug and sprayed the remaining oil/fuel all over the place
before I fired it again. Thanks for helping!
