Hey all,
I have a 3.55 rear with an AOD Transmission and 32 inch tires.
I spin really low rpms on the freeway, like 2,000 at 73 or something like that.
I was wondering how much of a gain I would see by switching over to 4.11 gears? I have put some performance parts on my engine but I can only see a difference in the higher rpms, it still is a dog. Would I really pick up some speed with the 4.11's?
Also, I do almost all in-town driving, 4.11's would help my gas mileage, right?
Is it worth it to try and find one of these axles?
I would say that you would notice the difference in acceleration and in town it would probably help you get into OD quicker but on the highway it will not help your gas mileage. Of course I don't think it will hurt it that much either. Check out the tire size/gear ratio/rpm table to see what you would be turning at speed. I think there is a good one at Novak conversion website or check in the offroad forum. They have several listed there.
your od gear is actually higher then mine with the e4od. i have 35's, 4.88's and in OD going 65mph my rpms are 2200 which for a 5.8 is at the bottem end of the power range so for you 4.10s would probably be just right.
The rear end off of an econoline should work fine for you. I would find myself a 9" or a Dana if I was you, cause it's a better rear end, in my opinion.
i read that with the 9 inch you need a different length driveshaft...i could take the driveshaft from the van...but only if it was long enough to be cut to size...correct?
