transmission problem

put ex in reverse,then to drive,made a noise,trani was slipping,only drove at 30 mph,got truck home,put truck in reverse and it went forward!trani temp has been fine and no slipping until tonight,could this be a sensor or seal or major problems?

It isn't a sensor, and it's probably not a seal. It sounds like the forward clutch slipped and welded itself together. What's the fluid look and smell like?

happened to me 2yrs ago, and like Mark said the weldin inside wasn't Jessie James quality, i ended up with a reman.

gears inside fell apart being rebuilt 1600

now fluid smells hot,had ex taken on a flatbed to transmission shop,they said gears just came apart-mechanical failure,they are rebuilding for 1600,ex has 9inches of lift with 38s on it, im sure that didnt help.

What rear end gears are turning those 38's?

It would be interesting to see an Excursion transmission rebuilt properly for $1,600.

Let us know how that works out for you.
