Looking for ideas. Truck is surging at speed and surging at idle. That having been said sometimes it runs smooth like it should. No rhyme or reason as far as I can tell. Checked codes this afternoon and got P0266,P0284,P0470 and P2290. The P266 has been an off and on issue for the last 6000 miles. I am currently running HSS and will be changing the oil this weekend. The truck is a 2004 Excursion late build 6.0L. I have a MBRP turbo back cat delete exhaust and AFE Stage 2 intake. I own a SCT X3 but currently running stock. Oh yeah I have an older model Edge set on 0 that I run for Boost gauge and EGT. Thoughts anyone??
take the edge off before taking it in. just because it's on level 0 it is still altering signals, or so I've been told. Looks like oz got you taken care of. Are you going to take it to a dealer?
I don't have a dealership that I have a lot of confidence in. On the other hand I guess I have to take it somewhere. I have 140k on the truck so warranty is not an issue. Probably will take the Edge off get it flashed and then make a decision on how to proceed. Not going to be inexpensive I am sure. It is my main source of tranportation.
unplug the edge but you don't have to completely uninstall it since you're out of warranty then get the flash and plug it back in if you want. Hopefully it helps but with 140k on original injectors I'd be praying. To get it flashed it has to go to a dealer, as far as I know, and it should cost about $100 bucks but if you check around at other dealers they might flash it for free. Takes about 10mins to do the inductive heating flash.
Def 2 bad nozzles, and you may want to replace em all at the same time as labor is not much more once the v covers are off.
the po470 can be a leaking ICP and replace the pigtail at the same time..you could alos have a leak in the HPO system..
also when we see injector/contribution concerns it can also be caused my low fuel pressure-meaning the filters are clogged or pump is on its way out.. low fuel pressure starves the injectors and makes them fail. you might put in the 2 and next week you may need another one or two!!
Is there a way to determine if the HPOP is okay without high tech equipment or taking it to the dealer?
the only way to test it is to rule it out, air check the system, balloon test and monitor ICP/IPR pids. if they all test out good then you can suspect a pump but is highly unlikely.
Thanks, I saw that picture in the 6.0L Bible, however my ICP is on the passenger side valve cover. Looks like the attaching wires are part of a large harness going I don't know where.

yep, all '03-mid 04's were in the rear.. but we have the larger turbo compressor wheel's.. ford only pays .7hrs to replace the ICP on the rear of this engine, I do em from underneath on the lift..much easier this way..

I have to ask how do you balloon test the high pressure oil system?I know how to balloon test the fuel system and high pressure air test the the high pressure oil system.I have never heard of a balloon test on h/p oil system.
