I have had lots of things fly off, fall off, come unhooked, get run into, etc! I had a set of grain trains come unhooked (empty) once many moons ago - when A-trains were the norm! To this day I have no clue as to how the heck that happened! We took the truck into one of the dealers in the city, slid the plate off, flipped it over to have it checked out just to make sure it wouldnt happen again and hurt someone!!!
On a side note and maybe off topic - its a good idea to tarp your load too!!!!
They are getting pretty fussy here about scrap metals now. They want them straped and tarped. Too many guys hauling scrap have lost stuff along the highways. If you look at the trucks hauling crushed cars now have a mesh over them. So the highway traffic guys now see guys hauling scrap in without a tarp they pull them over for unsafe loads.
Same in Saskatoon when hauling garbage. Your suspose to have it tied down and tarped. Most people still don't do this, but they have also nabbed a few for not adhereing to this bylaw.
Wow lol. I dont feel so bad just losing a stove! Im glad that no one has gotten any real bad accidents though
I was following a scrap dealer a few moons back, from Van to Chilliwack, just past Langley a chunk of steel about the size of a basketball slid out, bounced of the pavement over my car, and into the Pickup behind me. This thing went straight thru the guys windshield. I instantly dialed 911, and tialed the truck until the cops caught up with us just outside Chilliwack, almost into Hope.
I had to go back to the accident to give my report, and the truck was a mess, but no one in the pickup was seriously injured, the "ball" we thru the windshield between the seats, and thru the back seat and embedded itself into the chassis of the truck..
I've lost a variety of small stuff Including my brother, barrels, chairs and stuff. My brother on the other hand lost a few double brood chamber bee hives. What a mess! I was in the lead truck and had to stop to help him clean it up. I have yet to lose anything that was tied/strapped down though....
Well, ummm... we were hauling bales in Dad's '78 F250 Back in the early 90's. We pulled through a deep ditch with him standing on the tailgate. Once on the gravel, I gunned it and he went for just a 'little' tumble. His left shoulder was a little less double jointed after that, but not too serious. He reminds me every once in a while...........
I used to hal scrap in a grain truck, I never tarped but I never went through the city. In hindsight now it is alot safer tarped but man what the heck do some people think if they see a unsafe load Either get the drivers attention or else get oput of the way. if you just keep tailgating what do you think is gonna happen.
