I am going to get some sort of exhaust brake on my 1 ton dually. The auto trans sucks towing, and i really need something to help slow me down. Brakes are too darned expensive...so that exhaust brake will pay for itself in a hurry.
The wiring harness' that use the EBPV/warm up valve as a brake...do they work alrite? Or are they nowhere near as cool as the real deal.
I think i am going to get one from BD in Abbotsford, but im still curious about the harness setup.
Also, i run 4" stacks strait piped, and when my warmup valve shuts up, it sounds like a jet taking off. Its unbearable to stand beside the stacks...sounds sweet, but really noticable. Is an exhaust brake going to make that same noise?
I did mine with the ebpv/brake mod, and I think it works great. But I have a six speed and not an auto so I could not tell you how to hook it up. Also never owned a truck with an actual jake/brake so couldn't tell the difference. Hope this helps.
Having had both setups, the real deal works better. and you will get the same "jet" noise when enguaged. But with the BD brake that I have, you eliminate the warm up valve, and turn it on only when you want to. Barney
I have the decel tune from Jody that uses the EBPV and I used it two weekends ago when hauling the horse trailer. It sounds very cool and works very well. Never having had a real exhaust break, I can't compare the two, but the decel tune sure has to be a whole lot easier to install than an exhaust break.
The EPBV Valves work okay and we do offer a kit with the transmission controller, like mentioned above, the full BD Exhaust Brake kit is more effective especially with heavy trailers exceeding 8000LBS.
outdoormaniac, If you are interested in more details about the BD Exhaust Brake and transmission controller options let me know. I have some member pricing available or possibly free shipping, depending on where you are located.
Considering the price of the harness, one may as well just go with the real deal which is what i am figured on after the next paycheck. Dave, i will be calling you. Great service with the gauges.
I am absolutely stoked that i am gonna get the same noice with the exhaust brake too...that should really turn some heads

I look forward to talking with you again... glad I could help!
It depends on what turbo, most of the time it is not an issue on the Fords because we are replacing the EBPV. If your factory exhaust will adapt to your existing set up, it will definitly not be a problem. In the rare case that it will not mount to an after market turbo we offer a remote mount solution under the cab in a straight section of exhaust.
Do you have a certain turbo in mind that I can look into for you?
