I've had my '79 F150 2wd since I was 18. I'm 27 now. I bought it because I needed something to get me to school back then, and the car I was driving was a POS. I've had a few vehicles since then, but I've always kept my F150. it's been one hell of a reliable truck. It came with a 300-6 and C6....back in '01 I dropped an old '81 cop 302 and 3 speed manual in it. It just won't die. I beat the crap out of my truck and its just keeps on running. It's only let me down once all these years. I've always liked the looks of the old 73-79 trucks, vs. the rest of the production runs. I had a '81, but it just didn't look as cool.
I love my truck because it brings back memories.
A good friend of mine when we were in high school was able to get his drivers liscense at 15(agricultural) his dad bought him a new 79 F150 4x4.
we would cruise around town on friday nights chasing girls and getting in trouble.
I also love my truck because it plain looks tough sounds tough and is tough.
It's a 75 F250 Highboy 460 holley with dual glass pack stainless steel exhaust, when I put my foot down the Saudi's smile and the dead wake up!
It give's me a ****** when I drive it better than my viagra could ever do!
Dad bought my truck new and some of my greatest memories are tied into my truck, camping, road trips, and all out cruising on Friday nights when I was 16. Dad used to let me drive it to school and when he sold it, it broke my heart. It took nearly 25 years to get it back and now that it's mine, I'll never get rid of it.
I was 12yrs old in 78. Bronco's and fullsize series where everywhere. My Dad bought a new 78 F-150 Explorer. Blue with orange/yellow stripes. Uncle bought a new 79 F-250 RXLT,still has it. Step Dad had a 76 F-250 with 390 in it. When I drive my 78 the world just looks different. My son(21 now) first truck was a 79 Bronco, still has it . The beat goes on.
I'm with you guys who's dad had one. When i was a kid and see that big chrome grill coming down the street i knew it was dad coming home from work. He always had one, beaters mostly. When i was sixteen he let me drive it, cause it got 11mpg he knew i couldn't go too far and figured if i wrecked it i'd probably still be alive to tell about it. I have always loved these trucks because they are real trucks. I never worried about scratches or dings it took me where ever i wanted to go, any time of year.
I actually had a 98 F150, i liked it but it never felt like a real truck.
I was born in '51. My dad always had Fords of some kind or another. In the 60's we had a couple of 63's on our cattle ranch in New Mexico. Then in 65, he came home with a 65 high boy and a 390/4 speed. Man, my brothers and I were in love. No one had four wheel drive then and the damn thing was soooo far off the ground. We would fight over who got to take it on Friday night. Drive in movies were cool because you were looking OVER everyone!
As I became an adult I had quite a few: the most notable were a '70 longbed 360 C6 and then I bought my '77 shortbed 302 C4 and I have had it very since. My business has spent multiple 6 figures on trucks and SUV's over the last 11 years with the new F150 (liked the look) and Expeditions (lots of seating for people with the F150 undercarriage). I look back and that was foolish. Could have done the same rebuilding the F100's and a Bronco or two and saved a ton of money!
Anyway live and learn, will always keep the '77 .... there is just something about it ...
I just LOVE old Ford Trucks, my first was a 66 F-100 (which I have one now) and I beat the lving daylights out of it, and I always loved the looks of these 73-79s, they are just TOUGH, classic, artful. (I tell my wife I am a cultured art collector!! ) I like the no nonsense, utilitarian purpose of a real truck. I sold my 99 4x4 SD/CC/Lariat 7.3 with leather, a/c, auto, cd, power friggin everything (My first vehicle I ordered/built from Ford) when I found my 77. I was wearing the biggest SEG for a month or better once I drove him home, wife couldn't believe it when I sold my 99! If we are on a trip somewhere, and me or my daughter see's an old Ford, we ALWAYS turn around and go look. She can't wait to drive my trucks without my help, and one of them may end up pink with purple flames and a blue jean interior for her to drive when she truns 16! (her idea!) They just LOOK GREAT! Eye Candy if you will!
Speaking of long lasting trucks, have you guys & gals seen that new Dodge commercial where the guy says he wants to pass his truck on to his kid? What a joke. Ha Ha!! 8 - 10years down the road that truck will be sitting in a scrap pile. (Probably for a couple years already) Your not going to see any of these new "trucks" on the road after 30 years. No way pal. Ya better go pick up an old Ford for a grand and pass that on to you kid.
since we're in a bashing mood, at the salvage yard in vegas, the dodges are in the back row next to the crusher, no one even scavanges parts off them much. how many old dodges do you see on the road older than 94? (we do like to take their cummins engines though. lol)
Y'all have to be kidding me.These trucks are the ugliest pieces of junk that ever hit the streets. They are too big,Ugly, have no interior room and all of them need to be turned into Honda's.

Gonna be home in Salisbury for the summer and gonna start it off by tearing into my 400...you got any spare time you oughta swing on by...I mean you're only a hop skip and a jump away.
Sure will. Let me know when you get home.I'm going to Pull A Part in May to see if I can get a C6 for a FE and a DS II Dist. The 4 speed has got to go.
