hey I bought a used 96 f 350 but the bed is gray and the cab is green.the bed has some rust over the whels like they all get and the tail gate has some dents and a big rot spot down near the bumper im guessing they will cut it out and weld something to fix the rust and rot.I know macco is cheap but how's there prep work?I cant spend more then $3000 so i hope i can get the truck painted and prep for no more then that.one guy told me he cant match the paint if he only paints the bed cause the trucks 12 yrs old and the paint wont match.has anyone ever used macco at all?or should i stay away from them?
oh oh, better NOT get Macco. They do lousy prep, they'll bondo the hell out of it, and then when you hit a bump and everything falls out, they'll claim it was like that when you brought it in..
Thats what they did to my brother. And they quoted me $700 just for the box, no body work.
ive always heard bad things about them. i would sooner pay the money to take it to the dealer for body work (i know the guy) i used to work there he would hook me up as much as he could
As long as you state exactly what you want when you bring it in and its on the work order you shouldnt have a problem. If you see any problems with your truck when you go to pick it up point them out and tell them you want them fixed, just as you would do with any body and paint shop. I've bad mouthed maaco before but a lot of them actually do good work. I havent had any problems with my truck since they smeared some bondo in a couple dents (I told them to) and painted it. It cost $745 to fix the dents, sand the inside the cab and the whole exterior of the truck, and paint it inside and out. There were no runs, sags, overspray, orange peel or any other crap. As with any body shop you can run the risk of requesting replacement panels and getting bondo instead, its a common practice everywhere. Just make sure you check out the whole job and are satisfied before you pay for it, again as you should do with any body shop. I had a friend take his truck to maaco three years ago and he has no complaints, I had one of my trucks painted there over a year ago with no complaints and I plan on taking another one of my trucks there to get painted.

I'm glad you had good luck ...But , with all due respect,,,,
If they can't do it right when being paid to ,,, what should you expect when they are doing it over ,,,for free...More than two layers of paint ,is not good ...
Quality materials alone for a complete would cost quite a bit more than that ...JMO ....
"Quality materials alone for a complete would cost quite a bit more than that"?
You can buy a gallon of quality PPG paint, hardener, reducer and clear for $250 all day long. I've heard that all maaco shops are independently owned so they dont all use the same practices.
Maaco depends on the location, like any business. Some places have good, talented painters, some places higher idiots. There really isn't an across the board quality with Maaco... But hey, it is a franchise, and the Head shop is more interested in making money, than producing a quality product.
I got my estimate from maaco today $2,355.00 my truck needs alot of work he put on the estimate i need 2patch wheel opening some soft of patch they use when they cut the rust out over the rear wheels.I told the guy i wanted the bed sanded and all t rsut taken out of the bed and he goes we dont really get into truck beds that much whats up with that?then i had a rust spot in the door jam i wanted fixed and he goes just spay that with rusty jones its not that bad you can fix that yourself.I dont get it i wanted these things fixed and he didnt wanna fix them for some reason.I think he was trying to keep the price low cause hes a sales men and he makes money off every sale.some kid pulled in the parking lot that had his car painted there and it looked really nice so i really dont think they could be that bad.but i dont get why he wouldnt give me a estimate on everything i wanted i told him i want 2 estimates one on everything the body of the truck needs and then another one without touching the inside of the bed and he wouldnt do it.I really thought it was odd maybe i should call the guy who owns the place but oh well ill just go to another body shop.the price wasent bad but the guy was really odd.
Why don't you tell me where & what kind of quality paint & materials for an entire vehicle can be purchased ...
I 'm obviously shopping in the wrong place..
A gallon of quality clear (PPG ) hardener , & reducer , (if needed) ,will be more than 250.00
Depending on the color ,,Paint can be more than 100.00 per QT...(again ,quality )
Add a good etching primer ,,a surfacer ,& the fillers ,paper ect ...It adds up ...
In the 35 years I 've been painting ...I've heard a lot of things too...
Cheap price & high quality ?
what ever you say.....
I guess you are shopping in the wrong place, sorry to hear that for the past 35 years you've been getting taken advantage of. . . the last time I painted a truck I went to Buckys Autobody, the best body shop in our area, and bought a gallon of PPG light medium blue metallic base, a gallon of clear, a quart of hardener and gallon of reducer for about $230 dollars. Did I mention any thing about primer or filler before? No, just paint. The guy behind the counter threw in some strainers. Next time you want to paint your Chevette out in the back yard stop by and see me and we'll go to Buckys together so you wont get ripped off anymore. As for Maaco my sisters boyfriend is related to the guy that owns one of their shops in our area and he's a quality guy that isnt trying to rip people off. I'm truly sorry for any bad experiences you may have had with Maaco in the past and sincerely hope you can overcome them and regain some of the sleep you may have lost due to this thread and my previous post
man $230 for gal paint, rducer, clear, and qt of hardener. was it actual ppg or omni or one of ppgs other side brands? if it was ppg what was it dbc or dbu and which clear. reason i'm asking is i've got an account with a local finishmasters and i get a good deal because of amount i buy, but a gal of dc3000 just cost me 120 not including hardener.not tring to insult ya but unless you new the dude it's hard to believe it was all top of the line ppg for that price.
hey whats bucky's number and do they ship to illinois i want some quotes
