Does anyone know if my gas cap should be vented? I have a '73 F250 4X4 with the tank in the cab. Every now and then it dies and I can open the cap and give her some air then she'll fire up and run.
I would say yes it should be, the non-vented caps were for trucks with the evaporative emission system; doubt your '73 has that? The non-vented cap would explain your trouble, it's creating a vacuum in the tank, since no air can get in to displace the fuel being used.
I have a 75 and a 76 f250 4x4 they both have vented gas caps my 77 f150 and 79 f250 are non vented. You can get replacement gas caps a most auto parts stores, they are usually chrome originals were painted body color
Yeah, even my 76 F-100 has vented gas caps which would explain why I've had gas spewing out from the cap in the past after making right turns. Hope I'm not the only one who has noticed this...lol
