heating issues

I have a 1977 Ford with a 460 V/8 and when I warm it up and turn it off and try to start again it draws really hard off the battery making a new batery sound like it's dead. I have tied everything including a new ALT and coils ect....Dose any bodie have any ideas for what this may be?
thanx

Couple things come to mind, timing to advanced, starter getting heat soaked .You can check timing and retard it a couple degrees. Wrap the starter with a "starter blanket" places like summit have them.Check ALL your battery cable connections too.
