MPGs

my goal this summer is to get 20 mpg out of my supercrew 5.4!!! maybe a dream but i think i can get close. anyone have any good eletric cooling fans they have put in??? How about chips i was looking at the edge chip but not sure. I would buy a banks if they made one for my truck. has anyone found a after market true duel exhaust system?? i think with all that i will be close to 20 mpgs give or take one. thanks adam

A couple of companies make electric fan kits...but they are at least $350. You could put one together yourself for cheaper.
SCT makes good custom chips..
And as far as i know, no one makes a true duel kit for these trucks. You could have one made at a exhaust shop.. but i dont think you would see hardly any gains from a true duel.

What kind of MPGs are you getting now?

you can be happy with 16-17 MPG, or you can sell the truck and get a Mustang that gets 25 MPG. 99% of the crap you buy to get better mileage is just that, crap.

I get 15.5 as a low and 18.2 as a high driving in the southern US with a Predator Diablo program and 93 octane gas. I am about to put in an electric fan and see what that does. Like you, I put on enough miles that the $300+ is worth it if I can pick up 1+ mpg.

I am not sure 20 is out there, but it might be with the dual exhaust and long tube headers. Prices for the seem to be around $1300 and I'm not sure it is something I want to put out until my manifolds start leaking. I sure would like the sound though.

Good luck - let us know what you do and what you get.

I've hit 20MPG cruising at 75MPH straight highway with basicly a stock truck. Don't count on it regularly, and I wouldn't spend any money chasing MPG with a pickup truck.

a question I would ask myself is..... how much will it cost me to get that 4 MPH, and how many more miles can I go with that money. IMHO - it's not cost effective.

i get aroud 300 hundred miles to the tank. If i add 5 mpgs (rounding to make the math easy but you get the point) i would get 100 extra mile to the tank. at 3.50 a gallon for gas it wouldent take long.

so, (by my poor math - and please anyone correct me...) what's it gonna cost you for an electric fan, chip and duals... around $1000.

$1000 cost / $3.50 per gallon = 285 gallons
285 gallons x 20 mpg = 5700 miles

that's not bad - you pay yourself back in 5700 miles.

hey - I'm not knocking you - if you put that many miles a yr, it sounds like a sound decision.
