2001 Ford Excursion Limited

Hello Gents...First time posting here.

I just picked up a 2001 Ford Excursion Limited.

It has some issues, but I got it relatively cheap, so I won't cry. I'm willing to put whatever it needs to get it right.

I was hoping some of you could offer me some advice on the problems I found in it so far. Thanks in advance.

Issues:
1. Severe trembling when accelerating from just over 2,000 RPM to just about 4,000 RPM that goes away when I either accelerate hard to keep the RPM's up or just keep my foot on the pedal just enough to keep the speed up.

Had truck checked out at dealer who basically told me everything I already knew anyway ($200. for nothing). Only useful info is that the #2 & #4 cylinders are misfiring and that supposedly, the truck is only running on 8 cylinders. They said that if I continue to run it like this, I'll either damage the engine or the catalytic convertor.

The fuel injection system seems to have been replaced as it looks like it just came out of the box...shiny and new.

I suspect it's a fuel delivery or electronic system problem.

2. Short in electrical system leaves the passenger side running board lights on while truck is off and "Door Ajar" light on while truck is running and while all doors are closed. For now, I disconnect the battery when I park the truck for more than a 1/2 an hour.

Other than that, the only problem is a broken sway bar link...relatively easy to have replaced.

Ran CarFax on it, no flood/accident/salvage incidents.

Inteiror and exterior are pretty clean. It's a beautiful truck (pics coming soon).

I will have my personal mechanic (who's a Certified Mechanic with all the toys) take care of what the truck needs this coming weekend.

Questions:
1. Have any of you had similar problems with this trembling/running condition?
2. Are there any other issues I should look for while I have my mechanic under the hood?

Specifics:
2001 Ford Excursion Limited
Green with Tan Leather Interior
6.8 V-10
4X4

One more thing, it came without the floor condol, so I'm looking for one to put in it's place, possibly with a mini-fridge and/or DVDTV set up facing the rear seats.

Any suggestions for aftermarket companies?

Again, thanks for any help.

Coil on Plugs. Provide the spark to the spark plug.

I doubt the running board lights on is a short. Probably more than likely a dirty latch... Got at all the door latches with some cleaner, WD40 and some swabs.... If you do a search, you'll come up with many hits with this same issue.

Thanks. In going over the threads here, I've come up with the following suggestions:

1. Wire Harness Replacement for fuel system
2. MAF cleaning
3. IAF replacement
4. Fuel filter

And now...

5. Coils On Plugs check.

Since my "Door Ajar" light is constantly on, I'm thinking that's where the short is.

Definately. Thanks. I'll check it out.

How would the MAF cause the truck to misfire?

I second the cops and the rear door switch. Had similar issues on mine.

Replace the coils on cylinders 2 and 4 (both are on the pass side of motor 1,2,3,4,5). One of your door latch switches is bad (it is a known problem with the Ex's and SD's). Try and clean all of them and see if it fixes the problem. If you want to know for sure which door switch is bad, the dealer can go in with a scan tool and read the PID's for the door switches and let you know which door is thinking it is open when it is really closed.

Well, misfire is what the dealer said.

I never felt it misfire.

The dealer turned out to be a lieing sack of crap as he didn't do the bumper to bumper check I paid for.

So I feel he was lieing.

From what I read here, this problem is not uncommon with V10's so I'll try first what's suggested here working my way up from the least expesive fixes up to the major work.

Yeah...WD40 seems to be the consensus here. I'm going to try that first on a dry day (it's been pouring here all day).

Thanks.
