Well if it is a highboy all you need to do is replace it with the C6 and have the 3rd drive shaft shorten to fit. The hard part is finding the right tailshaft housing that the transfercase shifter mounts to. I have done it before.

What part of alaska? I live on the rock and know of a guy that has about five old military trucks with rockwells and hardware. As for a tranny swap I would stick with the np435 they are everywhere up here in the cold and can be purchased for less than 125 bucks from just about anybody with a junk pile.
