Well, OK then!

After reading the article I was inspired enough to submit a vehicle information form and some pre-sales questions... Good consumers diversify, IMHO.

The tech at the ford dealer knew I had a tuner in my 04 because even after I installed the stock program and took it in to be worked on he could tell by their computer that it had a tuner in it, almost voided my warranty. They said after the 5th turbo they were not going to replace any more. Keep in mind that the truck only had 28k on it and was in the shop 27 times. The dealership that I bought it from made me an offer I could not refuse so it is gone and I couldn't be happier now that I got an 07. I guess what I really want to ask is does the DP tuner do the same, leave some code the dealer can find and tell you had a tuner in the truck?
This is one of many posts that ask the same question https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/6...t-a-tuner.html
IMHO, FlashPaq's are evil... Driving your truck like a race car (no implication) is unwise... 5 turbos an 27 trips to the dealer was NOT the trucks doing... Regardless of the tuner, tune writer or tune, driving habits will keep you in or out of the shop with measurable frequency.

Its not that I drove it like I stole it. It didnt matter whether I drove it like a race car or like grandma. It just had alot of problems but I still stuck with ford because I love the truck. It put the others to shame. Along with the 5 turbo's was more than 5 EGR's. I knew I had a lemon when it went in the shop at 2k miles. I didnt put the tuner in until it had 17k on it. I figured it would be broke in enough by then. It just didnt like me I guess. At the end I switched the oil to Mystik JT8 and that pretty much solved the problems. I had been running rotella in it before. I also had the tuner set on economy and not the higher settings. I used it to try and get better fuel milage is all. Other than that it was bone stock.

These problems are exactly why I don't have a tuner, and I really want one. It doesn't even seem like a gamble. It just seems to be, if you tune it, it will break.

i think that would be true in some cases, especially when you use canned tunes. but i would think that if you were to purchase a tune that was written by a reputable tech that there shouldn't be any problems since i would think that they would address the known problems with the tunes that have a tendency to break stuff. they adjust to problems like cylinder pressure and over boost.

I don't agree that driving it hard causes things to break. I drive it like a nun and still had the turbo replaced at 15k. I feel that lack of driving the beast causes problems also. Mine is 3 years old and I have 16k on it. The last time I filled her up diesel was under $4.00.

At 14 MPG and $4.30 a gallon, I'm in no hurry to put the pedal to the floor.

I purchased 2 tunes from Jody yesterday, to use with my X3. He replied to my e-mail promptly, was there when I called, and sent out the tunes same day. Ill be trying one of them out starting today.
Thanks DP
