Pyro probe Q

Will installing the probe too deep make it read high? I'm pretty sure I'm near the pipe itself. My EGTs are waaaay high. Ambient 70F, 80 econ tune, barely any throttle to maintain 65mph and I'm up around 800F (edit: on flat terrain!). I can't even stay "on it" for more than 3 seconds without pushing 1200-1250......that's starting from a dead stop hovering around 350+. How do folks even make an 1/8 mi run without killing it?

I've always worried about mine too cause if I sit at idle for a long period, the egt's will drop to around 200. Mines in the up pipe just like the one in the diesel manor instructions. Could mine not be pushed in far enough??

That does seem a little low at 200*. Mine is around 350 to 400 as soon as I stop.

Mines around 300 when I come to a stop. If I'm sitting for a while, like at a drivethru or stopped in construction traffic, it'll drop to 200.

Mine will also drop to 250 or so. With the egts hitting 800 or better, it sounds like you could have leaking up pipes. That was/is the case in mine, but the rig goes to the shop next week. My up pipes came in Thursday.

I drilled and tapped the exhaust manifold from under the truck and put mine there. I hover around 350 to 400 degrees at idle. Just towed my boat to have service done yesterday and had to climb pretty steep grades. EGT's went to about 1100 degrees at most. I think my AFE stage 2 intake and MBRP exhaust have a lot to do with keeping the EGT's down.

Isn't 200 ok for where it is? It is in not in the exhaust manifold itself.

There aren't any real noticeable temp differences between the manifold and up-pipe. I've had probes in both places, and EGT readings were always the same.

I followed one of the sets of instructions someone recommended on here. Can't recall which one. I think it's on the up pipe? Driver side, right by the frame rail, near a flange. 'Twas the diesel manor page I went off of. I tapped the pipe too deep and had to put the adapter in all the way though.

Maybe that's it. My idle temps seem to be pretty consistent with everyone else's. I never get below 280* in the 80 econ tune though. I don't care how long it sits. I get a HUGE cloud of black/white smoke when I barely get on it too. Also think my truck should be faster than what it is. I'll go out and look for soot I guess? What do you make of a "squeaky" wastegate at part throttle? Sounds like its opening/closing repeatedly sometimes.

You should be able to ajust th depth no matter how deep it is tapped with the set screw. The end of the probe should be just over halfway in the pipe.

I would bet you have something else going on. What boost levels are you getting to?

At WOT I'm getting around 20-22 psi. I can't stay in it long cause the EGTs climb so darned fast. I drove again today....ambient 70*, level ground, cruise at 67-70 mph I was around 675*. As soon as I hit the slightest incline (boost at 5psi) I shoot up around 900*+. Wouldn't boost suck if I had leaky up-pipes? I checked up-pipes a couple of weeks ago and had no soot. I'm thinking I shouldn't get the cloud of black/white smoke just when I change lanes (maybe 1/4 throttle) either. The cloud is big enough to cover 3 lanes on the interstate.... kind of fun.
