I was wanting to put finned aluminum diff covers on my truck. Does anyone know if the new SD's have the same axel as ours. I was hoping it would bolt right up so i can go look in a junk yard for a wrecked one? Any thoughts? Also what weight are you guys running. I was going to go with royal purple 75-140.
I know in my trucks rear axle i got 75-140 weight gear oil. I seen in an earlier thread that royal purple already got the friction modifier in it. As for the diff cover i'll bump you back up.

You are correct, the 08 SD cover fits our rear axles, it is an easy swap, you need fluid and you need some silicon gasket maker, I had to use a puddy knife to get the old gasket materiel off, and you have to get longer bolts cause the bolts for your old cover are to short. I got stainless bolts from lowes cause the bolts from ford are spendy. works like a champ
WOW, that diff cover is cheap. all the ones i kept find when googling were like $200+. Is the cover on the 08's aluminum or is it just finned? Cowboss, are you using one off of an 08?
I went with the 08 diff cover on my 99, but since she's black and 'stock' bothers me, I had mine powdercoated (~$30)
If you order the diff cover through DieselManor (in the link I provided earlier) they will send you the cover with the proper bolts. You need to supply new fluid, some silicone gasket maker, the tools, & the time. It is aluminum as well, so in my book, it's by far the best deal going.
