Could be one of 2 choices. 4H15 could be 64/Aug/15th or 74/Aug/15th. Is there a casting number? Or vertical ribs on the sides of the block? 352 or reverse 105 on the front left of the block? D3TE or D4TE casting number would be a 74 date code. C4AE or C5AE number a 64 block.
Well your answering your own questions!!! LOL With the C5AE casting number... the 4H15 date code is 64/Aug/15 then. As far as what engine it is it could be anything from a 352 to a 427. That was a common casting number then. Natch the 427 would have the crossbolt maincaps so you'd see 3 bolt heads above the pan rail on each side. If your seeing a 3.784 stroke and no crossbolts my guess is a 390.
Oh! It could have a 428 3.98 stroke crank in it. Pretty popular thing to do. And being it's some 44 years old she's been around the block a time or three. I'm sure it's been rebuilt a few times.
Yep could be. If your getting a 4" stroke. Like you said you'd have to pull a head to measure the bore to see exactly what you have. But if this engine is in a truck and running good forget about it until you need to rebuild or upgrade. If this is a core engine your going to rebuild sometime then by all means crack er open and see.
well i might rebuild it this summer, she seems a little tired. it runs good has lots of power, but ive got a tapping lifter, it leaks alot, might be burning oil, plus this summer will be the only summer it wont be my daily driver.
