i drove to the gas station to fill up yesterday..... mind you obviously the trcuk was still running....... the front tank took 21 gallons to fill up. last time i checked it only holds 19 if its bone dry and you might possibly squeeze an extra gallon in there to fill it to the brim. but to get 21 gallons in there when it obviously still had some fuel in it kind of makes me angry. we are getting ripped off enough with fuel cost right now, the least they can do is give us what we are paying for....
Yup.
Just happened to me at a hess station.
I believe i got suckered. Price was lower than all around.
And like you state i have never been able to fill the tank in 11 years of trying with the amount it gave me.
Weights and measures needs to be on top of this.
Its a growing problem!!!

Bill
I'd be going back with a one gallon container.....& a camera....
Have to do something!
If you short fill you will not notice it.
If you have large cap tank and long fill you see it.
Believe its is just the diesel at this station. Its mostly corp trucks and the drivers will not notice it.
Looks that as of now i will carry a marked (pre measured) 1 gal can.
Check the pump and see if it has a sticker on it when it was last certified by the state. If over a year call dept of ag and report it,also let the manager or owner(not cashier) that you are doing this.DON'T LET THEM GET AWAY WITH IT!!! The certification sticker must be there,or the transaction is not legal.
This is a very interesting post, the poor dealer is just trying to get a little extra for his part in the biggest oil scam of all time. Actually he may be totally innocent, but the pump needs to be shut down by someone responsible for weights & measures in the state or federal government.
i would say this station is most likely not purposly doin it. they are a good place to get fuel from and keep the place clean and convienient. they are always the lowest around and try to hold it there as long as possible even as the surrounding stations are jacking prices up. its just frustrating to watch the meter go up and the tank not be full........
26 Gallons is the most ive ever used to fill up too, but I will deffently be paying more attention now. I friend of mine owns a gas station/repair shop and he is taking his pumps out becuase it is costing him money to sell fuel. Something really needs to be done.
first check is to stop the pump at exactly 10 gallons and the total cost should be the per. gallon price X10 I.E. for me 10 gallons at $4.12 per gallon will be $41.20 then stop again at 20 gallons should be $84.40 if not call the police department and report a theft and make them come do a report. then call the state department of weights and measures and have the station shut down
It's funny. That was an article in the local paper. It says the issue goes both ways. A check valve that starts meter and fuel can go bad. It can go either way, either block fuel as the meter is running. Or stop the meter with the fuel running. It's a double edged sword. We'd only notice when it's cutting us, I'm sure.
It talks about them going bad over time, so the inspections won't necessarily catch it. The issue needs to be addressed with the store manager, and then a repair by an authrized repair shop is required.
It was an AP article, so it should be viewable from any news site.
That article is BS.There is one "check vavle" also known as a crash vavle. The price runs off a pulser that is inline with the dispencer one calibration trues up both unless your running mechanical meters which don't exist because they don't operate fast enough for 4 dollar fuel.Joe you got screwed and the owner/management may not know it.
