Been riding a 2004 6.0L Diesel for the past 4 years and I love it. It's been a very reliable travel companion, but our towing needs have changed considerably over the past few years. We are now towing only 7,000Lbs 8 or 10 weekends a year. So, new truck is a gasser. I did test drive a 6.4L and must admit I was rather impressed. Holy quiet Batman and much more responsive than my 6.0L.
I have a buyer for my 2004 6.0L Lariat which didnt take long. The new truck is all "dollied up" with the fluffy creature comforts. 20" rims/chrome package/torqshift/ESOF4x4/power slider/power moonroof/BSEG/reverse camera/reverse sonar/navigation system/Sirius/traction control/heated seats/tailgate step/engine block heater/memory group/tow command!!!!/upfitter switches/roof markers and all the other stuff that makes me wonder if I bought a truck or an Escalade.
I spend a ton of time in my truck running service calls - so the extra comforts will be much appreciated.
Anyhoo - I guess I am a diesel to gas convert for now. Just couldnt justify that extra $6K for 6.4L and am still skeptical of the DPF. I suspect I will miss my 6.0L when I'm towing our Jayco 30T (don't even realize it's hitched behind the 6.0L), but the other 330 days a year I will probably (hopefully) be glad I went to a gasser. It'll be a big adjustment - I'll probably find myself "huffing" diesel fumes from other trucks just for old time sake. Maybe I'll record a diesel sound track to play in my new truck so I can pretend sometimes.
It's really not a life-long commitment anyway - I might be intersted in the 2010 oil burner when it's released. Who knows. Pumped about a getting a new SD anyway. I'll post pictures when it arrives in 3 - 8 weeks (depending on which person I asked at the dealership - Fox Ford, Grand Rapids, Michigan).

Congratulations! I am in the market for an 08 V-10 myself. They are impossible to find here in the southwest. When I check online at Ford.com, I can find 54 F250's at the 5 dealerships associated with my zipcode and none are gassers!
You are equipping yours about the same way I am trying to find one equipped. But I am too impatient to order one!!
I am also a diesel to gas convert. My previous trucks have been: 01' 7.3, 03' 6.0 Powerstroke, 05' Cummins HO, and I just traded a Duramax LBZ for my 2008 Ford. As you can see I have been a longtime diesel fan. Before my v10 purchase I ran the numbers and between the new ULS diesel, 07' Emissions Standards, higher cost of diesel fuel, and higher initial cost of the truck it just doesn't pencil out anymore.
Performance wise, I was not expecting much from the v10 when it came to towing my 8-9,000 pound enclosed trailer through the mountains into the Alaska range. Well after 4,000 miles on the truck, of which almost half was towing, I can say the v10 gives up hardly anything to the "stock" diesels in towing performance. It will not hold gears like a diesel will but that is the nature of the motor. It needs to rev to make its power. The truck could pull nearly every grade it saw at 70+ mph and could hit the speed limiter on flat ground...not that I tried it. Fuel mileage was right around 8.5 mpg, where my Duramax would have got around 10.5 on the same trip. Factor in the extra $.70 per gallon and there goes the fuel mileage advantage of the diesel.
O5PSD - we found one in a dealer search in Penn. Loaded V10, but no Nav and no tracntion control. The traction control is probably not needed, but for the $104 price tag I figured it might be a nice thing here in Michigan in the winter time on ice.
interesting....I plan on getting a new V10 later this year after my warranty on my '06 PSD runs out. I love this truck and have had zero issues with the PSD. Only reason for swapping to a V10 is to lower the monthly payment. My max towing is a 6k car/trailer and 8k horse trailer so I really do not need the PSD. Plus I do not pay for fuel thanks to a fuel card from work so the MPG's do not concern me ;-).
Can the V10's handle 28-30k miles (mostly highway commuting) a year? Hope so

Well if you keep it 20 years - probably not. Keeping it for 5 - 7 years shouldn't be much of a problem. Hang out in the V-10 forum and you'll see guys getting 150K-200K without much of an issue.

yeah, I tend to keep vehicles for a short period of time. Planning on having the next truck for 5 years max.
I bought my just last year in August with 93K on it. I'm not worried about the V10 holding but rather if there will be a body left in a few years from rust starting to set in.
It will have about 73K on it when I hand it over to him. I'm selling it to a friend so we worked out a good deal for both of us. KBB says about $25,900 and NADA said about the same for private party seller. We worked out a price right around those numbers.
It's a nice price for him and the fact that I can keep driving it until my new truck arrives makes it a very nice arrangement for me. Course I dont get the check from him till I hand over the keys.
Congrats on the new truck. I too switched from a diesel to a gasser (04' Cummins) and I love the V-10. My Dodge/Cummins was a superb truck which was actually traded first on an F-150. I then subsequently traded up to the 08' Superduty. My Cummins pulled a 9K fifth wheel without any trouble. I now tow a 7k Boat with my V-10 and also have no trouble. The power as applied to the ground is different between the two. However, you won't be dissapointed.
Ive looked into getting a new v-10 truck myself but with the line of work I use my truck for I just can't make myself give up the power stroke. I run my truck usually around 1K miles a weeks and tow with it at least half of the time. My old 00 is still running strong with over 1/3 million miles (356K to be exact) and I still drive it everyday. Im not sure I could get that kind of reliability on the v-10. not to mention my 00 is paid for and the fact that employees often drive my truck and dont take care of it like I would I just cant justify the money. Congrats on your new truck. I bet it will be nice.

Not really sure where it is that the V10 has "earned" this negative reputation. There is no evidence anywhere that the V10 cannot have a long service life. Yet, there is plenty of evidence to the contrary.
MONSTA - funny, my perception of the 6.0L was pretty negative until I owned one. It's been a rock solid and reliable engine for me, but I was almost scared away from buying it when researching/reading this site back in May of 2004. Glad I applied the grain of salt to the negative things I read on this site. The V10 forum here is mostly positive info the V10. Dealership service manager gave me the skinny on the V10 - exhaust bolt issue was the only thing he could really come up with and said the solution it to just replace it before it has a chance to break. Simple - in theory.
