Another damn fool led by the nose by the other damn fools who think you can get away thumbing your nose at the IRS. I'd try to find sympathy, but he filed a bunch of jacked up returns over the years, claiming refunds and other nonsense.
Too bad, he had a good career acting and could probably have lived pretty easy if he'd searched a little farther for advice.
Am I reading it right? He's only got to serve one year of supervised release? That's not really all that much of a statement or punishment for him.
Looks that way from one angle, but he has to serve the 3 years--no parole--maybe a little off for good behavior, then the surpervised release. Idiot co-defendents got more time.
Hey- it was how they nailed Al Capone. And they proved to Leona Helmsley that she was not above paying taxes either.
And I worry when I think my refund is too big.
I'm sure everyone realizes that with Mr. Snipes being convicted, and the four cops that were acquitted this week, that we'll see them thrown together as an argument of racial bias....if Sharpton hasn't seized that opportunity yet, I'd be shocked silly.
As for Snipes...he forgot the IRS motto:
"IRS: We've got what it takes, to take what you've got!"

I saw a joke IRS form that goes like this

For years I have been arguing with the IRS over problems with a couple of my refunds. Somehow they decided to withhold my last 2 refunds, saying that I had defaulted on my student loans. But I hadn't defaulted, I refinanced the loans through my own bank and never missed a payment.
After that mess was cleared up, they determined that I had underpaid my taxes a couple of times several years ago, and they wanted several times the underpaid amount once penalties, interest, and other fees were retroactively added.
But now I live in Japan, and my income and other assets are beyond their reach. I pay 2% income tax, and an additional 2% for local taxes. I pay into the national pension plan, but unlike Social Security in America, if I decide to leave Japan, I will be refunded the amount I paid into the national pension fund.
There are many things I miss about living in America, but there are also many things I don't miss at all.
