Well thanks to this post I think I am going to get one just for the cool sound!
I seen a truck about 2 weeks ago, he must of had a ww and the ats housing on, very loud whistle just like the big trucks. With just the ww on, idleing, nothing but when you start to go you here the whistle out the tailpipe, when you start to get on her you can here it under the hood as well. The truck sounds much more stronger. This is what izzy was telling me about. Thanks izzy,it,s true.I would have done the ccv mod while i was there but i was running out of time. I'll do that this weekend.
It looked like the earlyier style fords before they came out with the 7.3, 6.9 maybe. I didn't get a real good look at it but i would asume by the sound of it, it was a 7.3. If you looking for alittle more whistle i think fters said on here to go with the ats housing, if you want alot of whistle go with both, ww and ats housing. But some guys on here(bdrummonds)took the ww out and left the ats housing in because it was too loud. Just for kicks, do the ww and if it,s not loud enough for you, add the ats housing, this way you only have to remove ats housing.
It will fix your surge issues -- it did for me. Mine really starts screaming at about 10 psi, especially with the foil off the I/C pipe. Usually, a first-time passenger says something about it when I get on it.
I even had a 6.0 guy ask if he could put one on his truck...
Mike, how did you get the exhaust turbine stopped with the turbo on. I was going to try it with it on, but took it out and couldn't get the wheel to stop with 4 screwdrivers in it. Just outta curiosity

A screw driver padded with tape inserted at just the right angle, wedged against the exhaust back pressure valve.
.
Poppa your surge will be cured. I tow a 14k 5th wheel and it never surges, even on a 6% grade at WOT. Just a nice whistle and 24lb boost.
Will, if you have access, an impact wrench might be the whip...Mike, what was the size of the center nut on the stock wheel? The reason I didnt get to my WW install when I did the foil delete, I didnt have the 8mm, or 5/16 12 point....I have 4 of the 5/16, and 3 of them 8mm, all 6 point

thats the same reason mine is still sitting on the work bench. i need to get that 12 pt. socket, but might just do what Joe mentioned.

The way kwickordead explained it, i went in with the screwdriver at the top(in the exhaust side) and as i turned the ww the screwdriver moved a little as it was binding. I was a little scared when i was doing this but just did it slow. Also it,s a 5/8 wrench to get the ww off i do believe.

I got to tell you dan, what a difference, i tow a 15,000 pound travel trailer as well and i will feel alot better knowing the surge is gone. Also, very important, i did not unhook my wastegate, i just moved the housing with the wastegate on there around just to get to the wheel. I heard the horor stories about losing the wastegate clip and i didn't want any problems with that.
