I have a 2000 f-250 v9 ex-cab and need a new exhaust. Want to get something with performance for towing and something that looks good and big and sounds mean! What u guys/girls think?
I just put a flowmaster Super 40 muffler with dual exhaust. Flowmaster claimed this was their second loudest muffler behind the super 44's. The truck sounds perfect, a little quiet for my taste but good. The cat's are not free flowing so they rob alot of the noise.
I have a Gibson single on my 5.4 and It's nice. I got to ride in the Corsa Demo Dogde and my next exhaust will be a corsa. They aren't that loud or annoying, however my opinion seems to be different from the masses who think straight pipes or flow master 40s with over sized pipes are the only way to go. I can't stand those vehicles, or some of their owners, they get up a 4am, get their hunting clothes out of sealed bags to keep them away from human scent and arrive in the woods in a vehicle that is as loud as a rock concert.
I think you need to get the missing cylinder fixed. That should help performance.
Seriously, I don't think the performance improvement is worth the cost. And the V-10 does not sound that good either. To my ears, the factory exhaust sounds about as good as it gets.
A word on cats, this isn't the 80's. Catalytic converters have come a long way, sure it's not as free flowing as unrestricted pipe, but it isn't harming a stock to mild engine either.

Oh and welcome to FTE.
I think he is only wishing for that 9th cylinder, i think he only has 8, but as for sound, the 5.4 straight piped sounds pretty good IMO or just through a FM 40 series on it.
Don't mean to stray here but my issue is relevant to the responses. I put on a Flowmaster 40 single 3" in dual 3" out and have it dumped directly behind the muffler. The sound is absolutely awesome!! Have a single cab '05 f250 5.4 4x4 with the 6 speed manual. Here's the question that a solution to fixing has been driving me insane.
Ever since the muffler was installed, I have a very annoying squeal that changes from left to right and sounds like it's something in the cab or maybe the pinch welds themselves. It only happens between 1700 to 2500 rpm and it is constant throughout that range, so until I get out of that range it is a persistent sqeal. It's truly making the truck dreadful to drive instead of enjoyable except for the times that it sounds so good.
So far I have tried taking off my toolbox, removing the b-pillar plastics on the interior as well as the roof too b-pillar joint covers on the outside, as well as taking off the old exhaust heat shield since it was kinda shady as far as potential squeals.
So if anyone can PLEASE help me with this or might have some good suggestions let me know. Much thanks in advance.

I run the factory single with my 5.4L and a 40 series Flowmaster. It doesn't sound too loud from the inside but sounds great from the outside. I only let my wift drive it so I could stand in the driveway and listen to her take off.
