Heated mirror question

I was wondering where the switch is on the trucks that actually came from the factory with heated mirrors that turns them on? Also what would the switch beside the cubbyhole next to the heater controls operate? I have a knockout plug there. I was thinking about buying whatever switch goes there to run my heated mirrors, if possible.

I'm pretty sure that there wasn't a switch to turn on the heat to the mirrors. It is just on all the time. That knockout plug next to the cubby is where the power pedal switch would be if you had that option.

There is no switch but IIRC they have an 'internal thermostat' so-to-speak so that when they aren't needed they aren't heating.

Brendan, I don't believe that there is a thermostat. There is no switch. If you have them, they are always on unless you have added a switch.

I could easily be wrong about that, and with Ford engineers and some of the things they do, I very well am...

I've only seen my mirrors on when I turn the defroster on.

That's a great observation! I still want to get that F650 lower panel and and a number of switches, one of them being to manually control the mirror heat.

I'm sure you could cut the wire going to the mirror and make it manual.

To clarify, I have seen it freeze with ice and turned on the motor and nothing really happened. Eventually it warmed up and melted. Faster way is to turn on the rear defroster and you can see the ice melt. Also, I tested it when I did the towing mirror install

I think that it was only a option on the Excursions.... Not exactly sure though. Until they came out with the mirrors with the turn signals and heat.

If your going to install a switch use on that has a pilot light. When the heaters are on so is the light.
