I had posted prior that my 01 F150 wouldn't start. It would just click and that was it, batt good checked all the basics, we thought it was a bad starter.
I found a used one at a junk yard for 30.00 and while I was waiting for it to come in I went over and tried the truck again. It started right up and has been starting consistantly ever since, with no indication of an issue.
I was told that this is a known problem with fords and the solution is to run a second ground from the battery straight to the frame.
I guess it makes sense and for the cost if it works would be a cheap fix. But before I tried it I want to see if anyone else has come across this.
Can't say that I have seen or heard of that problem/fix. Chances are that the problem will come back. Did you look into the wiring connections at the starter as I suggested to you previously? Good luck!
I would go with the bad ground/wire/connection. Corrosion on the ground terminal? I've seen a few cars sold because of battery and/or cable issues. I use to buy the cheap stuff, but now I the dweib that goes to the dealer to get cables, they just hang correct and work!
my old 94 f150 did that too. i never found out what the cause was but i replaced the key position switch in the steering column and it worked except for one time but i sold the truck soon after that. so im not sure it really worked
I did not check the volts at the wire ends, because it started the next time I was there. My rationale is that if it started then it would read the correct amount.
Lariat were you able to clean your ends? I was told that they frequently rot to the selenoid and the studs snap off if you touch them.
either way I have to crawl under there to check it out.
