Just starting a resto on a '52 P/U and was wondering what sort of stuff was available for the wiring. I don't want to trash the wiring harness if I will have to build a replacement myself.
There's lots of folks who make replacement wiring harnesses. Painless is one I know of. For the 51/52 some of them don't come as a bundle but rather in a series of "mini" harnesses. I know C&G carries all of them and probably LMC as well. There's one more that I remember but th ename is stored in my old age brain cells and it won't come out. If I remember I'll get back to you. But yes, you can buy them. I also rewired my 51 and have a full wiring diagram I made as I did it. I'd be happy to send it to you if you decide to do your own....It's pretty easy and gives you the flexability to add stuff if you want.
You mentioned you were restoring the pickup. The companies listed above all have good harnesses, but they will be modern, with fuse panels and plastic coated wiring. If you want the original looking harness, I would suggest Sacramento Vintage Ford, who can make an exact match of the original.
Thanks for all the info guys. I guess I will not going back to original especially with the rear end being so low geared. I will have to change the gears so why not go modern wherever practicle. I do want to keep the flathead and three on the tree though.
I would agree,
It does not get any better than this set up. You will find EVERYTHING in 1 box that you will need without any hassle at all. I have done EZ, Ron F, Affordable Street Rod, the stocker from Carpenter and I would do this set up again (and have for friends) I did mine and never had to call the factory until I wanted to thank them for pleasing me. The blueprint alone is worth gold and every color coded marked wire matches the color on the schematic. Each sub system or switch also has it's very own little schematic. And it works with most gauge packages too. Look here.....
